  • Hi all, I would love to join your frugal challenge. I am currently doing the grocery challenge, which I failed at miserably, but am determined to make September a better month. Fingers crossed. I do things like fill the soap dispensers with value bubble bath, at about 18p, does fine, and shop for clothes in charity shops, but am sure i could make my wardrobe go further with a few accessories and instead of Freecycling, maybe eBay - and put the money in a pot for xmas. If anyone knows of some really easy alcohol recipes, I would appreciate it. Good luck all. Do you do this monthly, or three monthly.
  • Well, it's 1st September, and I've started my diet and the Four Month Frugal Special! Trying to ignore the fact that I'm so hungry, I could eat my own liver, and so tempted by a top on ebay. :o

Tells self "I am not starving and if I don't buy the top, I have many others to wear, so I won't be naked". :D (That's a very false smile by the way).

    Good Luck All!
    xx

please count me in for the half stone challenge market day today so that's where i'm heading and the library !!! I think evenings are going to be the worst time for me - just need to keep busy i think ;)

Ok, well you have made me feel well & truly guilty. I was sitting here, innocently browsing through this thread whilst eating a (small) chocolate biscuit - and have been reminded that I also need to lose a good half stone or so!

Just over a year ago I lost 4 1/2 stone, & went from size 18/20 to size 10/12, but I have now put nearly a stone back on (can still get into most of the 10s, but not all!) And I don't want to have to buy any more clothes - especially not in larger sizes!!!

I hereby pledge that I will attempt to get rid of that extra - and spend less (certainly on chocolate biscuits lol) over the next 4 months.
I know I started this challenge with great enthusiasm at the beginning of the year, but just like the eating, have slid gracefully (ok, not so gracefully!) off the wagon. So - am in for the final four months worth of frugalism!
  • Not a lot to report.
MalleyCat still hadn't came home, I've bn out looking, the other cats know she's not here, the come to the garden and keep going past, whereas they used to come to the door n meow til she went out.
A notice will be put in the paper this week . Hope someone has her and hands her back!

Went shopping today, I NEED new cardigans and jumpers, got 1 on sale , seen a few new stock ones, but will wait till they go down in price. I also got s pair of fur lined ankle boots for £10 and got new hat n 2 pair of gloves, 1 for me and other to Ho in Christmas box... I've noticed all the shops selling the hats n stuff cheap just now, must be making way for the new colours for this winter, I'm going to buy some for my hampers.

Sons dad gets married tomorrow, should be fun for son... should I get them a present? I bought a card but don't think they would like/want/appreciate a present from me.... might just pick up a 'lucky horseshoe' for son to give them.

I'm part of a breastfeeding committee group, its my 1st meeting for what feels like years, really its just bn a few months. Don't know what to expect as half quit and their are new people whom I don't know.
Imo starts back soon, I need to go buy that laptop soon before they ask for the money back lol... tesco have some good deals on them just now....

Oh, I bought 2 tickets to go see kaiser chiefs in Feb, so that's Valentine present sorted! Looking to get cheap accommodation for the night... have seen a few good deals, but a bit reluctant at paying £80+ for a room for one night!

Good luck to everyone, hugs where needed (take 1 for free) ,

I am soo up for losing/saving pounds! Went from size 20/22 in July 2010 to size 12 by Dec 2010... after Donna and Noah death, I've slowly slipped back up to neatly a 14, I blame the new guy, he keeps taking me out for food!!! Can't wait to get back to uni, I walk lots, that's how I lost all the weight, well that and lack of money to buy food at uni, and stress over deadlines and money lol.

New month, new determination to be "good"!

Did well in August on cutting spends, and have worked out all the maths to show how well I did. But, I have fallen by the wayside in terms of keeping proper account of where the money went. I have my own version of a spreadsheet, but need to get back to better ways. In the first half of the year everything was written down - groceries in one notebook, other spends in another. Am going back to this, and am just sorting out my little books (small enough to fit in handbag).

On the weight front, I need to lose half a stone. Am 10st 3lbs, but 9st 10lbs would be a lot better. (The yummy HM bread is an issue, but mainly I do eat it in moderation.)

This feels almost like New Year! Anyway, I'm off to update my sig - good luck everyone else!

Lola - I make the washing powder, seems to work OK, though I do use ordinary washing powder for alternate white washes. Also, good luck with the BF support - I did that for many years - so rewarding.
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
  • Lola, so sorry about the cat. My friend lost her cat and found her half a year later, living quite happily on the other side of the motorway with a new family! She spoke to the family and decided to leave here there rather than unsettle her. How she got over there I don't know!
I've got breastfeeding advice flyers I give out for free if you would like a handful for your group. Just pm me so I'm not spamming on here.
