    Hello fellow frugallers:j
RFTA- good luck with the new budget- I have a love hate relationship with my spending diary:D I start very keen at the beginning of each month and by the end I'm only noting down what I'm spending for the grocery challenge [which I haven't even joined this month:o] When there's two of you spending it's well nigh impossible to track the spending accurately. We simply know that the other one is a naturally frugal soul and will do their best spending wise;) All big purchases are always discussed anyway.
Congrats on your qualification Seriously Frugal- what fab news:j
We had a BBSD here at GBT yesterday [that'll be a Bloomin' Big Spend Day] We bought a bath, I bought another pair of boots and we had Chinese takeaway but we still applied frugal principles. The bath had 15% off in the sale which paid for its delivery and we are fitting the bathroom ourselves. We have thoroughly researched prices and are buying taps etc from Screwfix. The boots were only £19.50 from Tesco and I took advantage of the double points- unfortunately I had to pay p&p this time as our local branch hasn't had any more in for weeks and couldn't tell me if they would be [bought the black ones instore a few weeks back] so decided to bite the bullet otherwise I'll miss the boat. Finally, had a 10% off voucher for the takeaway and we shared the cost with friends.

Thanks for highlighting the gifts thread Dizzy- the only time I've ever used a laminator was when I had the pages of an old calendar laminated and then stuck them on my kitchen doors as a stop gap measure whilst we were saving to redo it. By the time I'd also changed the handles they looked really good and gave us a couple more years with the kitchen looking half decent.
Hugs to all those who need them.

    Good morning

    Hope everyone is fine.

Girlie had such a great time on Friday night she was in no fit state to go out on her birthday last night!

So she will be getting a lecture when she gets home! (just a short one - it was her birthday!)

Little spend for me today - need to take something to sister in laws for dinner.
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

  • NSD today, missing the cat :-( found this though https://www.cinnamon.org.uk which is a place that hooks up foster homes for pets of elderly people who have to go into hospital - you can foster for a short time so you get the pet without the bills or the attachment. I'll register with them then get a mouser for the spring when we will be over run I am sure. Or maybe a dog so I feel safer at night, not that I go anywhere at night but you know what I mean.

:( Been in bed most of the day. Really drained, tired, lethargic.
Got up and thought I'd check my pigsback. What the....!!!!
Have in essence lost the £37 I had, which I was going to exchange for Amazon vouchers and can only exchange it now for pretty much useless stuff really. Anyway thought I might as well get something and it won't let me access the page I need to go on and when it does it doesn't make sense! Looks to me like it's deliberately !!!! a hoop when you want to use your mega deal points to pay but it's oh so easy and straightforward if you're buying the deal with your bank card!!! Hmmmmm very fishy... Anyway I've emailed them so will see what they come back with.
I feel like I've completely wasted the day but I just couldn't keep awake. I've got a reallyy irritating cough too. OH has got me some lucozade which brings back memories of my mum buying me this when I was little, in a glass bottle with diamond type design at the top...aw sweet memories.
Hope today has been good to everyone

I've been a member of achia (I think that's what its called) for a year now, and today I actually bought my first, well 3, items.3 books printed on one poster (each book on its own) for Christmas presents. They are called [STRIKE]spineless books[/STRIKE] sorry, its spineless classics. Look fab.
I get to refer people and if they sign up through my link we both get £5 to our account, if anyone would like the link, send me a wee pm and I'll forward it on. The spineless books are only on for today, and a little while tomorrow. They have loads of different things available.. some come back around often, others like these, annually (so it seems) and some never to be seen again.

I'm going to post this on the refer board as well... but these look great. I got the peter pan book, Alice in wonderland and a conan Doyle one for Mr f. I wanted the Christmas carol one in the shape of wee timmy, but this time they only had the candle shape one on the offer.

I'll edit again if I can get a picture to steal then reload.

    Here's one!
I was going to go for this, but went for the hound of baskerville instead (is that even what the book is called lol)

  • Hi Guys,

I've not posted on here for ages, but do try to keep up with all the post. Having taken some inspiration from here I today have changed the car insurance saving £143.00 and changed our home insurance (buildings & contents) saving £11 a month, thats £132 a year - why did I not do this earlier - if you haven't changed yours in years like me then like me I'm sure you can save loads of money........:j:j:jIts better than a days work................

    Well, a mixed day.

Bad news: i didn't get the permanent teaching assistant job which is what I was at interview for on Friday. However...

Good news: I have managed to secure a temporary post as a teaching assistant at the school until the end of November, which is definitely better than nothing.

Lizzie - hope you're feeling better soon :)

I'm really sorry you didn't get the post you wanted :(
But really pleased that you've been offered the temporary post. At least that's something :)
Thank you for the 'well wishes' too :) I am definately heading towards a poorly chest :(
