This are great! especially at such short notice could i ask how you cooled them so quickly for decoration, was it in the freezer?

I bake 3 layers in a baking tray like a swiss roll tray so that I dont have to cut. They come out level then, leave to cool on wire racks. they dont take too long then

thanks hun, never thought of Swiss roll trays, i did a ginger cake the other day in a deep tin it was awful took forever to cook tasted ok but wasn't happy with it lol so remade it in 2 2.5" deep tins i think they where turned out a lot better i also tweaked the recipe so it wasn't so treacle tasting it was a sticky ginger cake so was quite heavy, but anyway.. i see them dragging things out the oven on TV like cupcake wars etc and then 5 mins later decorating them i guess they have a blast chiller or something.

can I please ask how you colour just the edges on your icing? Thank you.

I coloured a small amount of buttercream and then lined the inside of the bag with it before adding the uncoloured buttercream.

  • Hello everyone. I have a question about a cake I have to make for the children that live next door to me. I've been asked to make them a cake for christmas as its like their tradition to have something different as a cake each year apparently.

I was wondering how to decorate it though, or what shape to make it. There's 10 kids aged between 16 and 1, and another one on the way. Boys and girls. The parents always try to make it about the children, so I was thinking something like rudolph might look okay but I don't know if that's too childish for the older ones?

Any help here would be great! Thanks!

Hi, does anyone know an easy way or know a website which tells you how to work out what it costs to make a cake? I used to make them in my old job and there is a possibility I may be able to supply a cafe with cakes.
