Looking for a bit of advise regarding stand alone mixer. Don't want to spend crazy money on one as I only make cakes for fun. Don't sell them and don't want to start so feel I cant really justify selling £400 on a mixer. I had looked at the Kenwood Prospero but been offered a Kenwood Kmix Mixer in almond for £150. (it is still new and unopened with all internal packaging. Was an unwanted gift). I have never really bought anything second hand before (although un-used). What do you think? Has anyone any experiance of either.
ThanksYearly Grocery Budget - £100.77/ £3500. January Treats Budget - £11.80 / £100.0 -

Love the graduation cake & the wedding night cake! Love things that are a bit different! Unfortunately I'm not skilled enough yet for such wonderful cakes!
Thank you Mamascakes! I was soo chuffed it turned out so well, and a lady at work saw it and asked me to make one for her daughter next year...0 -
AnnieH, can you tell me if there's any difference except in looks between a Kenwood Chef mixer and a K-Mix? My old hand mixer is really struggling these days and I want to buy a stand mixer to replace it.
Amazon have a White Chef Classic with an 800 watt motor for £168 whereas the http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-KMX54-Stand-Mixer-Peppercorn/dp/B0014IOAK8/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1309458897&sr=1-2 is £230 and its motor is only 500 watt.
I realise the K-Mix is a much more attractive machine but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money.
Grateful for any views.
Oops, something went wrong - the second link is a K Mix.0 -
I've been meaning to share some of my cakes with you ladies. They are nowhere near as professional as some of yours but I enjoy making them for family and friends.
This is the wedding cake I mentioned earlier this week that I made for my brother from the BBC Good Food recipe.
Another brother went off to the States at Easter so I made him this suitcase cake.
It was my sister's birthday last weekend and I made her a cupcake tower with a cupcake for every year she has lived.
A handbag cake for a friend's 40th birthday. I find writing with icing a nightmare so I have bought some tappits letters. Need to find an excuse to try them out.0 -
Well I got my Kmix today...decided to get a black one, goes better with my other kitchen appliances...cannot wait to try it out. Could of got it for £220 if I'd taken out an Amazon credit card...but ended up paying £239 with express delivery included as wanted it quickly... it's grandsons birthday, and have cupcakes and cone cupcakes do to for Sunday and then cupcakes to do Sunday for cake stall at school sports day Monday. Really could of done with a practise run with it first to get used to it but no time.0

I had to adjust the beater on my Kmix as it didn't get to the bottom of the bowl. Shame you don't have time to play with it first, as it'd give time to iron these things out. I love mine. I've made sugarpaste from scratch in it, and it's half the price of shop bought0

Can't comment on the other kenwood, as I only really looked at the Kmix and the KitchenAid. I decided on the Kmix because of its more powerful motor, and cheaper price.0 -
