Home-made cakes thread 2

Hi Everyone.
I'm new here and I'm after a bit of advice please.
My sister is getting married next Sept and for her present I have offered to make the cupcakes. It's a long way off but I'm pregnant and due in November so I'm planning on between now and during my maternity leave perfecting them. So far, all I've done is perfected the sponge. She's having lemon cupcakes and vanilla cupcakes. I know how to make really nice icing but I usually just spread it over the top with a knife so I need to learn how to pipe! Help! I have never touched a piping bag in my life. Am I crazy to even consider it?
Where do I start?? Can someone recommend a good set I can buy to get started with?
Thanks! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
You'll master it in no time at all picklepick! I started off with a Wilton 1M tip. I got it from E-bay. Have a look on You Tube for tutorials on piping.0

nanamia: u need to go there in November. For sure you will gonna love it as much as we all do. x
picklepick: all of us started with zero knowledge about everything BUT practise makes perfect. I recommend you get 1M and 2D nozzle. Still long way to practise. You could make it for sure! Anyway, congrats with your bump! Is he a boy or a girl? x0 -

I am a beginner, only done 2 lots of buttercream cupcakes but I think with practise you learn very quickly. I can do the 2d rose swirl very easily and was told they look professional. You can ice a cake, wipe it off and start again if you want to.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I really should keep away from this thread, every time I take a peek I end up fantasising over cake - wouldn't normally be a problem, but I've challenged myself not to buy any more food until after the next BH...7 days and counting whilst I dream of lemon and vanilla cupcakesValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Picklepick one other thing I would say is to invest in a decent piping bag. I bought a good size Wilton one but am trying the big disposable ones from Lakeland. I've got 216 to pipe for the jubilee so want a decent size bag so don't have to keep refilling! I'll let you know how I get on with them!0

Thanks becs, having just looked on ebay at the nozzles, that was going to be my next question! What piping bag haha
I'm guessing I'd need to pipe about 100 cakes, so I guess if I learn with a big bag it will be easier to start as I mean to carry on.What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0
