You are so very welcome. And thank you I too saw the tips about confectioner glaze and thought I'd like to try:)
I've got a cake order for Saturday for a lovely little girl who is going to be eight. I've got a few ideas but not really made my final decisions yet! Got our DGD1 til Monday night so I'll come up with a plan then:)

Imb4wcb your cakes are gorgeous. The camera is amazing - have you used confectionery glaze to get that sheen? The pink owl is so cute you've managed to get the shapes perfect. Well done:)

I'm really envious to those who managed to get to the show. I'd have loved to have gone but am skint till after our hols ( -18 days)

Shegirl the white chocolate buttercream sounds yummy, made my mouth water just reading it.

Nat haven't heard of the Paul Bradford site had a quick peep and look forward to watching the vids. Have you paid for a subscription or 'lurked'?

I can't remember who asked (sorry) but I have started to buy from Costco if you've got a card (or kno someone who has) I get my flour, caster sugar, butter and icing sugar from there. Eggs I've recently started getting from Aldi- cant beat the free range prices at the mo. Vanilla pods I get from eBay. Cake boxes (pack of ten) and cake boards( also x10) from a supplier called Winsors they do online but I'm lucky enough to live not that far away and my DH will oblige as chauffeur :)
    Sorry if I've missed anybody.

    Hi nanamia

I'm not allowed to post a link but in the address bar it says m.windsorcakecraft.co.uk can you try that?

Just realised I called it Winsor - such a dumbo! That's probably why you couldn't find it. Sorry:(

Look under bulk purchases for the packs of ten I use. X

Hi nanamia! I don't have a subscription (yet!) but I've done one of Paul Bradfords courses and it was fab. I'm hoping to do more as his school is less than an hours drive from where I live. He has some stuff on You Tube too x
  • Nanamia, u should've come. It was a shame that I wasn't able to go online before the event (I was busy at work!) cos I would have arrange to meet up with you ladies who made it there.

I watched Paul Da Costa Greaves cos I went in a wrong show and it was embarassing to walk out. lol. I was after the sugar craft but missed it. :D Basically, just spent a lot of fortune there and now skint. ;)

I met some of the cake decorators who competed and they were all lovely. I was inspired with their work! :D

It must have been alot busier on the saturday and sunday, I didn't have any problems seeing anything on the friday. I bought the tracey mann cake decorating skills book, had a good look through it and I'm really glad I choose that one, it has so many modelling techniques in it and the instructions are really clear, so very happy with that!
Still haven't decided what to make myself as a birthday cake next week, I have too many ideas after seeing all the cakes on friday!

awesome2 you asked about quantities for ganache. recipe in this weeks cake decorating mag says 400g choc to 400ml cream should do 8inch cake if that helps. gonna have to try that too.
Gutted for those that couldnt make the show at weekend, though your bank accounts will be happier than mine. I am very new to the whole thing so was awe inspiring for me, and fascinating watching experts in action. lots of them were singing the praises of new pme pearl lustre (even the ones who werent selling it so must be true :D). heres couple of pics of some of my favourite comp entries to give us all something to aspire to. apologies for taking up entire page!!

MonkeyMagic- Think we posted at the same time haha! I don't remember seeing the elephant cake, I love it!
I got some of the lustre dust aswell! And transfer sheets, can't wait to have a go with them! Just before I left I got some different flavourings, blackcurrant, lime and a rose one, they smell so yummy, so think I will be making cupcakes this week to try them out!

ooh thats spooky XyummyX we decided to post those pics at same time (though it took me about half hour to do it ;)). loving your lion. was tracey mann the one who had loads of books with DVD's that went with it? if so, i watched her model a duck and she made it so simply. she said most novice cake makers go straight into trying to make people and you shouldnt be allowed to make a person until you had done a duck, then a teddy, then maybe a clown (in shapeless jumpsuit so less fidly) then you could do a person. sounded v sensible, only didnt buy a book cos there was too many to choose and had just spotted tilting turntable for £20 which was busy talking myself into needing it v urgently :D
