went back and looked through the first thread as well and all I can say is WOW.

This is my first attempt at modelling animals, I was very happy with the giraffe and elephant but was quite tired when doing the rest. Not quite up to the standards on here but hopefully i'll get there.

    Lovely cake bindiboo as usual!

OK ladies, I have a few questions to ask if thats ok? I would appreciate any advice you may have.

-where can I buy a cheap cake board and cake boxes, any suggestions?

-I know, there is a sugarflair that could make my buttercream really white but I can't find that part in this link so can u please tell me? :)

-What do you put in a chocolate ganache to make it shiny?

Really grateful for any help thanks in advance. xxx

I usually get them when I'm ordering other things like sugarpaste. I mainly use http://www.cakescookiesandcraftsshop.co.uk/ There service is brilliant and if you're ordering quite a bit the postage is capped to £3.32 per order. If you're only buying cake boards then you should have a look on E-bay as £3.32 is alot of P+P to pay for cake boards!

I also use http://www.cake-stuff.com/ Their P+P is calculated on weight so they might be cheaper overall.

This is the stuff you're looking for. I've used it once but had to use loads and it took a wee while to develop

I always make ganache using double cream and chocolate. Have never added anything else to it. I have just made a Chocolate Cola Cake for our Easter dinner and the topping for that is made from melted butter and icing sugar and it's shiny. Hopefully someone else can answer that one more helpfully!!!

Just to add: to keep a cake moist you can make up a sugar syrup that you spread on top and on the top part of the lower cake if sandwiching.Heat 75ml of water and 75g caster sugar until it boils-keep stirring lol.Once cool just brush over the cake :) Works with cakes you've premade and frozen too.Haven't tried it yet though!
A cautionary tale about sugar syrup.

What exactly is the point of making cakes that look too good to eat? ;)
