I've had Firefox for quite a while, and pound for pound, it beats MSIE hands down for security awareness. One of the very few problems I have found is when ActiveX controls are needed to run plug-in programs. As these controls are a Microsoft product, Firefox does not support them. For this reason only, I've kept a copy of MSIE to open these specific pages, but they are few and far between. Deffo worth switching to Firefox in the long run.I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

Another vote for Firefox here. Not only quicker IMO than IE but a damn site safer for surfing the net. I use it 99% of the time and it's been over 7 weeks since I last found any spyware on my system. Using IE, I used to find spyware every scan. I still scan at least 3 or 4 times a week.
Once you get used to using Firefox, you can set it as your default browser and only use IE when you really have to.
The reason Firefox doesn't work 100% of the time isn't because it is lacking. It's because some web developers write their pages specifically for IE. I expect over time this will happen less and less. Even now we are only talking about maybe 1% of web pages, if that. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Is the rise of Firefox (I liked its former name, Firebird, from the ashes), responsible for M$ bringing forward plans for IE7?
... even they think it's good.0 -

That's probably why
I'm not one of these people who detest microsoft - but I do think we should all use non MS software whenever we can.
It forces microsoft to get off their lazy, complacent backsides and everyone benefits
Think about it - IE users are going to get a better browser because of firefox!!0 -

I think this has to be the case. Reports out now are the IE market share has fallen below 90% for the first time ever.
Also, MS is moving into the security antivirus/spyware market. If we all stop using MS products, people won't need so much protection. After all the way most people get infected is through weaknesses exploited in their products.
In another thread, someone suggested that Firefox is not as safe as IE. ROFLMAO that's a good'n.
This is like saying that sticking the wires in the wall socket using matchsticks to hold them in is safer than using a plug. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
