So if I was to click on the link and go through the process would I still be able to use IE? and if I don't like it can I get rid of it?

The only other thing is that I'm only on a little laptop and I worry that by downloading all different things I'm using up space

    I'm not techie am I? :o
Just run, run and keep on running!

You can still use IE whenever you want. I think there are some sites that you can only get to using IE. You can get rid of it if you don't like it through add/remove programmes & uninstall it.

 grrrr the threads got merged as i was typing and i lost my whole post!!!!!!!!!

i tried firefox and found it very impressive.

however it used a LOT of resources and the longer i was online the resources used went UP and UP. having checked up on this i found it was a common problem but with some users experiencing it and others not, but there was no plans in the near future to fix it

as i tend to spend alot of hours online i didnt want to be using up this amount of resources so opted to go back top ie :(

I don't like the word replacement. It makes some people scared that they won't be able to use IE any more

I'm constantly trying to persuade people that you can have both - and that firefox won't try and murder IE :D

firefox_logo.jpg <---The second avatar I ever had on this site (I'm on my 4th). The problem was that I couldn't have that and then make posts suggesting firefox without looking like a complete fanatic:rotfl:;)

    :D:D
And I thought I was the only one that would look fanatical....!!!!

But come off it - once you've used Firefox it WILL be a replacement for IE. I never used Explorer now - having to start a new session to go to another website when you're still reading the one you're on?!?!?! How yesterday.. ;)

But even if it uses slightly more resources - how much other 'junk' is running in the background that you could shut down or that starts-up when your PC boots, that you don't really need loaded into memory and could just activate manually?

I'm prepared to wait a couple of seconds longer for Firefox to load and then have the ease of use throughout the day until the PC is shut down - plus all the 'security' benefits that IE doesn't have. There is really no comparison.

copper regardless of what i have runing in the back ground as i say there was a problem with firefox, the resources would just go up and up and up (it dosent stop) the longer you was online, with the hours im online a day this was no good to me.

i didnt knock firefox, i said i actually liked it but wasnt prepared to put up with the resources it used due to the fault.

in the years ive beem online none of the "security" issues in IE have affected me so for me ,im happy to have the ease of use throughout the day until the PC is shut down .

I think it really depends on your system and how firefox interacts with it.

I've had firefox on all day. I just launched excell and that's shot past it in the task manager

    mOOnie, I wasn't 'avin a go!

v strange that you're suffering a drain like that tho - how long ago was it that you were running it? It might've been updated since that version?

The security bugs in IE are well trawled in the papers and sites and as you say you've not been affected by them - I wouldn't know if I had been unless its some kind of disaster!

    No offence intended...;)
