Fake goods on play.com

Why the OP refuses to return it is baffling. As he has had a full refund, it is not his to keep surely? The fact that he has not even left any feedback about it and would rather just "not bother" suggests that clearly he's going to keep the item and use it. Its also bizarre to be adamant that the seller knew exactly what he was supplying. Again, no evidence whatsoever. I too sell on Playtrade and you are exactly the kind of customer we could all do without. Its quite clear you are just after a freebie.
It isn't baffling at all. If you send it back, they will just send it to a different person. The only way to stop these people selling fakes is to make it difficult for them to sell it.
I bought a fake off ebay and it was a pretty good fake but as I had been trained by my job to tell which games and DVDs are fakes but I am not sure other people would. I complained and asked for a refund and at first he played at not knowing what I meant and blaming the supplier. I got the refund and at first gave him a negative but I may have changed it to a neutral because he did refund quite promptly. My feedback still said it was a fake though.
He sent me a prepaid envelope so I could send the game back to him but I just ignored it and he didn't ask again. I am sure if he thought the game was genuine then he would have insisted I gave it back before refunding.
The only thing I did give him though was a very long email telling him exactly what made the game a fake. I wasn't going to at first because if he was making the fakes then I was telling him how to make his business better. I sent it because it probably wasn't him but his supplier making them.
I kept the game only to help me compare in the future with any other games I get from ebay. I don't see a problem with playing this game (if it worked) though because the seller deserved to have the game taken away from him as he shouldn't be selling fakes. He shouldn't have it back because he will just sell it to someone else. I can't sell the game on so it's not as useful to me as it should have been. Therefore even though I got the game for free I might as well keep it than throw it away although as it is a fake then the quality won't be any good.
If you get a fake from ebay, get a refund but don't send it back.0 -
If you look on Amazon there are few sellers you could trust, look for those stating it has a hologram and is a UK edition but you'd need to pay around £20 for this now.
The DVD they sold you is a counterfeit from China or the like, made in a factory but not with Disney's authorisation. Your best bet is to take the DVD to Trading Standards, if they accept it is fake and you get a receipt from them this is good enough for eBay and they will refund without requesting a return (not sure on Paypal disputes but this is how an eBay dispute should work).
If you'd like to message me the seller's ID I'll check them on eBay and report them direct to Disney. I'm sick of these sellers on eBay destroying buyer confidence and driving consumers in to the hands of big retailers, it's very damaging to small businesses. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
We'll have to disagree on that one Azari, I'm not sure how it's lazy though.
The reason titles are generally deleted is because no one is buying the rights to distribute the titles on DVD, usually due to poor sales figures. It isn't impossible for Nintendo to keep making SNES games, Marvel to produce the original Spiderman comics, Corgi to keep producing classic toys or for Lego to keep selling every set they've ever designed, it just isn't done and as such supply and demand kicks in, that is the cost of living in a capitalist society.
But this is off topic, point is if you get counterfeit goods they shouldn't be returned. If you are looking for deleted Disney DVDs only buy from sellers specifically stating that are the UK release with a hologram on if you want to be 100% certain they are genuine. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
johnnyboyrebel wrote: »Play actively promote issuing a full refund immediately whenever there is an issue or fault, of course most sellers have more common sense however not all of them. Could it be that they simply wanted you to be happy as a customer therefore resolved the issue there and then? As for returning the item, they may not generally ask for faulty goods back, again this is not strange. I suggest before allegating some sellers are clearly selling counterfeit goods then I would certainly get some kind of evidence first as it gives all Playtrade sellers a bad name.
This is all my point is.
Thanks for your input and I appreciate where you are coming from. Please believe me when I say I have all the evidence that I need. I know that the goods I received are 100% counterfeit. They are not even good fakes. Shoddy workmanship, covered in typos, logo's missing and so on. Quite shameful really as I have seen some really good fakes, particularly at boot sales.
Yes, they wanted to keep me sweet by refunding by money, but not from a customer service point of view...hush money!
I don't think it gives all playtraders a bad name. I have bought dozens of items from playtrade over the years with minimum problems. Ebay is the same, you know the fakers are out there somewhere, but that doesn't make you suspect everyone surely?0 -

I buy games and DVDs that are shipped from the CI and when i've bought from official suppliers (like amazon, and play) they have not been fake. OP bought from the marketplace so to say that play.com are at fault is ludicrous. amazon have a marketplace too and some products ship from CI. Very dumb post.
i have a friend that works in the entertainment distributions industry who is very well connected. play use the marketplace to sell inferior goods that they are selling themselves but make you blame some other seller when you find out. a lot of companys do this.
not everything fromt he channel islands is fake but a lot is.0 -
I deal directly with entertainment distributors daily, Play don't sell on PlayTrade it's a mixture of other businesses (from the TheHut Group to people selling out of their spare room) and private people selling their unwanted goods.
Amazon, Play and TheHut all use the Channel Islands, as does a certain DVD wholesaler for fulfilment, their goods aren't fake and with all due respect anything said otherwise about these companies with regards to media is nonsense. In most cases Amazon account for the majority of business for studios (not only the biggest customer but accounting for more than 50% of their trade for smaller studios), a company like Amazon certainly doesn't sell counterfeit media. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

i know people who i guarantee deal with things on a bigger scale than you do. it is well known inside of the industry that play uses playtrade to sell its fake goods so do most others it is just something they like to keep quiet.
some of these big companies also pay private sellers to sell dodgy items for them that wouldnt sell otherwise.0 -

You seriously believe that ? Also you think that you might be anonymous posting here ?
That is a pretty straightforward libellous statement you made.0 -
Thank you to everyone for their input. I think I will draw a line under the whole matter and put it down to experience.
I won't be posting any further comments as I think it is getting slightly out of hand with mention of 'libellous statements'!
Take care0
