Following a price increase no Supplier can charge a Termination Fee.

That is factually correct but the 'no exit fee' also means that one does not get locked into a contract which has a cancellation fee, which is an anti-competitive device intended to reduce the saving from switching. To that extent not having a cancellation charge should in theory encourage the Co-op to keep its prices competitive!0 -
Well ... I started this thread off two months ago and then because of a close family bereavement never looked at the replies, never switched to the Co-op and see Co-op have put up their prices (I am in West Midlands, sods law...). Now looking again as EON did of course raise their prices and I can get £25 back from Co-op. However, I see the Co-op charge a service charge; on dual fuel that would be £126 per year. On my current deal with EON (Dual fuel energy online) I cannot see any mention of a service (or standing) charge but am sure they charge something. Is it implicit in the price of the kwh or unit? Thank you anyone.0

For Co-op it's a standing charge of £63 pa for electricity and £63 pa for gas. The per KWh rate is additional.
In fact the West Midlands tariff was the only one to go up. It seems that they reduced the West Midlands tariff on 27 May, then put it up again to the old April rate from 1st August. It was obviously out of kilter with all their other regional rates.
I did my sums, and even at the Aug 1 tariff http://www.cooperativeenergy.coop/assets/documents/price-list.pdf it seemed pretty good to me. No cancellation fees to exit, either.0 -
I did my homework also very carefully I have being with Atlantic for over 8 years as always the cheapest tariff and the refund every year.
However since Atlantic increased and having looked at Co-op rates for me is a pure saver , hence I have switched ,plus £25 off first bill and the Dividend points for me is a winner.
On the standing charge alone I will save £38 per year.0 -
? no longer £50 off first bill?0

The £50 off first bill offer expired on 22 July (sign up date).
There is currentlly a £25 first bill discount offer available for sign-ups from 15th August 2011 to 23 September 2011.
That applies even if it's single fuel only but it isn't 2 x£25 for dual fuel.If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0 -
I swtched to Co-op Energy some months ago, have just today received an email saying "As previously advised, our prices are increasing with effect from Thursday 3rd November 2011."
Checking on their website that says the increase was announced on 29 Sept and and they claim was average 18.1% for gas and 10.5% for electricity from 3 Nov for customers like me who signed up before 3 Oct. In fact that is misleading - my tariff is West Midlands which since signup has been 3.13p for Gas and 9.09 for Elec, after 3 Nov it will be 3.81p for Gas and 12.22p for Elec which is is reality +22% for Gas and +34% for Elec.
Check your tariffs if you are West Midlands, because the Electricity increases are massive if you were previously on the v1.1 or v2.1 ones (which were both relatively good). Historical tariffs and the increased one are all here: http://www.cooperativeenergy.coop/prices
I have never received any forewarning of this price increase, neither by email nor post, and I check spam daily and there has been nothing there.
I had come to expect this sort of shenanigans from Scottish Power but did not expect it from the Co-op.....
Just 4 working days notice seems ridiculous, especially as they crow about how ethical they are. Has anyone else not had warning of price increases from them?0
