I have been caught out by buying a kettle from Tesco online only to find two days later it was nearly £2 cheaper in store!

But I still think the greatest con of all by this store and others is charging 2.5% to pay by Credit Card and they say not to worry as it is built into the price, which means every one who pays cash is also paying it!

I have wrote to them on the subject and they agree with me, cheeky I think.

thanks nice to read anothr problem with Tesco, I have noticed they no longr sell the large Lurpack butter, but just the 8 oz ones, any one know why?
I'm so fed up with Tesco not having what I want, I just leave the trolly and walk out, to Asda, better customer service and saving's
Fresh food products, like your butter, have a use by date on them which is not long-life (ie. only a couple of weeks). If Tesco do not sell all of these products before they day they go out of date, they loose money. Tesco can reduce them, but they loose money again, either way it's loose-loose if the sales are not high enough for the product to sell before it's out of date. It's likely that this product was removed due to Tesco loosing too much money on it. If Tesco loose more money then they make (as a whole, I'm not just talking about your one store here), then they have no option but to remove it from sale, and replace it with a line they hope will sell better. Express stores suffer the hardest from this as they have greatly reduced turnover, and are forced to be more aggressive on a store level on such products. Metros suffer the same to a lesser extent.

It's possible there is a completely different reason as to why the product is not stocked, but I've listed the most likely. Sorry you had to leave, but I hope this helps answer your question anyway.

Mainly because Im a pensioner who has asked for the couponsto be the ones I can save for longer, not the ones with a shop by date on, i don't go every week, can some one sort it, not at all, they just don't care,
I even sent aload back to them asking to have them redated, did they reply, No so lost all the coupons cost £4-00
The £xx off coupons last for a very long time, so I'm assuming you are talking about the "buy X get Y points" coupons which only last a couple of months. It suprises me you cannot spend them in this time. I'm not aware of the policy on this, as I don't work at Clubcard. I simply don't have the knowleadge to help you here. Sorry. My advice would be to keep at clubcard if you're so adament about the vouchers, they have slipped up here, and may be able to sort something out in a way of more vouchers...

I agree, it sucks. But every retailer is forced to do this.... Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Woolworths... you name it, if you can pay by card, you'll pay the premium. Every single retailer I've ever known about does this, it's just a question about how open they are about it.
  • Re the community pricing differences; HMV used to do this if Virgin or other local retailers had offers. I saw a box set of stuff in a store one day and went to purchase the same set from a different store to find that there was a £5 difference. It was before I had discovered comparison websites.
when they were giving out brains, I thought they said 'trains', so I asked for a slow one... :(
  • They sure are cheeky beggars. But despite their "every little helps" slogan and their plain no frills adverts which annoy the hellout of me, they are a business and you can see now why they made a whopping great profit last year!

Thanks for bringing it to our attention though.

Incidently, I have been ordering my groceries online from them and they are very good, alwayson time and the delivery people are pleasant and professional and with the ecoupons and vouchers have amassed £65 worth in clubcard points and saved £55 in money by using them thanks to this fab site!!! so all is not lost!

    A cute gesture :)

I only posted here 'cos I felt the other side had to be heard... otherwise it's all "This sucks" followed by "oh yeah, it does, doesn't it?" I feel the other side should always be known or stated, even if I find it disagreeable to what I think, otherwise you only have half the story at best, or complete lies and falsehood at the worst.

I agree that lies and half truths and falsehoods do no good to anyone.

But lets be honest all supermakets be it Tescos/Sainsburys/Asda etc etc are all after one thing. The money in my pocket.

I mean it is like BOGOF's I have known for year that they are funded by the manufactures and not the supermarkets. They way the treat suppliers is not always nice.

I choose not to buy the bulk of my shopping from Tescos as I don't like the hold they have on the highstreet. I doubt they really care. I only spend about £80 a month in a supermarket anyway. And I suspect with margins being so tight they would make very little profit on it anway.

I will bash any supermarket if I think they deserve it. For what ever reason. But you can see why Tescos are getting bashing on this. Value products are suppose to cheaper then the next level up. But if they charging more for value products then they are for next level up it makes me go

But this just goes to prove one thing. People are assuming something is cheaper because it is a value. Rather than checking the acutal SEL. People get sloppy and don't check prices.

I have to agree with someone else. Labels should be standard it is is either per KG or per 100g. To say that is because different people produce the info is both lazy and sloppy. If they are working from the same standards this would not be happening.

I have worked in a supermarket stacking shelves so know what a thankless task it is. And it is hard to keeping up with changing SEL.

As I have said before and will say again I am cherry picker and brand tart. I will cherry pick the best deals from each supermarket. And because of that I am brand tart because I buy what ever is on offer in each supermarket. But do the bulk of my shopping in Morrisons from choice.

    Yours

  • Cant stick em and prefer Morrisons.

They are the biggest cons - they still owe us £20 cash back from a shop we did last year!!! The check-out person didn't hand it over to us, we found out when we left the shop, went back and they just denied that we were to have received any cash back!!!
Chasing them up about it is not resulting in anything...

  • i have noticed for a long time now that special offers aren't always that special! i keep a calculator in my handbag for on the spot comparisons and frequently find its cheaper to buy the usual mid priced item than the special offer. I have become very cynical in my old age and ALWAYS look a gift "offer" in the mouth!!!

Got our TESCO shopping delivered today and ordered a beef tomato (it must be the smallest beef tomato we have ever seen).

Ordered some oranges at 19p each and expected them to be a bit bigger than a satsuma but alas, maybe our eyesight is failing us.

Have noticed few price changes too. Their value apple juice used to be 39p now up to 45p conveniently the same price of the value orange juice.

We always notice fresh veg never lasts very long so best to get it from fruit and veg shops.

Nobody's "forced" to do this, and the 2.5% is not an additional charge to anyone. It's just a (legal) VAT fiddle.

There are costs to the supermarkets in accepting cash, as well as accepting cheques - the banks charge them for the costs of transporting large amounts of cash securely (or the supermarkets pay the security carriers directly) - so it's not really a subsidy from those who pay by cash, to those who pay by card.
