On another note, Tesco's will put up the price and then do a special offer of "Buy 2 for £x" and then underneath this it states how much you will save if you buy two together instead of two on separate shopping trips. However, because of the recent price rise you're not actually saving any money!
I've never once seen this. In fact, I'll go as far to say that's an out-right lie. Care to give a proper example of this happening?
It's funny how Tesco's are quite open about lowering their prices, but they never advertise their prices are rising. Take 2 Fresh Duck Legs, a few months ago they were priced at 1.99 and now they cost 2.15!
Name me one retailer which does, and I'll give you next Saturday's lottery numbers.

A while back I bought one of the Primus 5 megapixel cameras that I had seen at one store. I didn't buy it at the time thinking I would get it on the Monday at my local store as it was bound to be reduced there too. WRONG! When I pointed out the difference in price I was told that different stores have different promotions, and don't neccessarily reduce the same promotions. (I can understand this on food, but not on household goods.) When they rang through to the original store I saw the offer at, they had put up their price again in the one day that they had been shut. And they say they don't play games.

Whilst shopping in Tesco's lately I have noticed that they appear to be playing a nasty game. Several items were packaged as "Value" products, you therefore expect them to be the cheapest. However I saw a couple of things that were the same price as their standard products.

    E.g. Value 1 litre Unsweetened Soya Milk - 65p
Tesco Brand 1 litre Sweetened Soya Milk with Calcium and vitamins - 65p

I even saw mouthwash where the Value one was 1p MORE expensive than their standard bottle. We are talking the same quantity here too. I checked the ingredients and the active ones were the same.

Another trick is with their labels. Their standard products were priced per 100ml or per litre etc but the value products were marked per item, making it really difficult to compare value.

E.g. Tesco "Weetbix" marked as £ per 100g
Tesco Value "Weetbix" marked as xp per biscuit.

This is all designed to trick us and make it more difficult to shop well. I am really cross about this as we are all trying to be careful with where we spend our money and we would naturally assume that by buying Value products we are being as thrifty as possible, when really we might be getting a substandard quality product for the same or MORE than Tesco's standard product!

Keep your eyes peeled and make sure that you check those prices before buying!!!!

thanks nice to read anothr problem with Tesco, I have noticed they no longr sell the large Lurpack butter, but just the 8 oz ones, any one know why?
I'm so fed up with Tesco not having what I want, I just leave the trolly and walk out, to Asda, better customer service and saving's, Mainly because Im a pensioner who has asked for the couponsto be the ones I can save for longer, not the ones with a shop by date on, i don't go every week, can some one sort it, not at all, they just don't care,
I even sent aload back to them asking to have them redated, did they reply, No so lost all the coupons cost £4-00

I noticed that the shelf edge prices in Tesco on the toilet rolls say something like:

I thought it was being a bit too detailed, until I realised it meant per SHEET.

Most supermarkets operate what is regional as well store to store pricing policy or what I have heard it called price flexing.

So they in effect charge what the local community will pay. According to what I have read only Morrisons and Asda do not have this policy. They charge the same one end of the country to the other.

As I don't travel the length and breath of the country I can't confirm this.

To get an insight in to supermarkets then read Trolley Wars: The Battle of the Supermarkets Judi Bevan. Very eye opening if you ask me.

As Riblet as mentioned we make can make or break a supermarket with the way we shop. You as the consumer have the power.

Riblet if you want we can have a Sainsurys/Asda/Lidl/Aldi/Morrisons bashing thread.

As Tescos grosses the most of all the supermarkets is it any surprise that it gets the most amount of bashing of all the supermarkets.

    A cute gesture :)

I only posted here 'cos I felt the other side had to be heard... otherwise it's all "This sucks" followed by "oh yeah, it does, doesn't it?" I feel the other side should always be known or stated, even if I find it disagreeable to what I think, otherwise you only have half the story at best, or complete lies and falsehood at the worst.
  • hmmmm very interesting.
  • Tesco value chicken breasts also more expensive per kilo than the 'normal' Tesco branded item.

    Devious nirks!
