Vent:Store staff told me they would search me

In a way I could see why the shop staff might be suspicious.
You go into a shop with a tag on you somewhere so the alarm goes off (and the staff see this), then when in the shop you fill your bag will lots of stuff and when you walk out the door and the alarm goes off again. At this point you remind the staff that it went off when you entered the shop so it must be a problem with the sensor, so they ignore you.
blossomhill, I'm not in any way implying that you would even consider something like this, but you can bet your life that people have tried it in the past.0 -
I always set the alarm off going into the local Tesco, and usually on the way out.
I think it's my car key.
Now there are a couple of staff that say "Hello, I heard you come in"
I always let the checkout people see that I have an empty shopping bag when I'm at the tills, and I use a miniscule handbag.
Worst thing is the snotty kids outside going "ooh missus, you've nicked something!"
I always walk away slowly to give any hunky security guard the chance to catch up and frisk me , but this has not happened yet.0 -

ive set off the alarms at tesco once and i think it was my car keys r my phone but never had an issue since then at that same store or at any other tesco0 -
The option the shop has if you refuse there request is to ask you to leave the premises or not to serve you.
This is if you set the alarm off as you entered.0 -
I think my setting it off as I walk in acts as an Early Warning System for the staff to check there is my usual Red Wine on the shelf :cool:0

I set off the alarm going into Superdrug today but not leaving. I was a bit apprehensive about leaving as it had gone off already, but used the same doors to exit as I had entered and spoke to the girl on the till who had seen/heard me come in! :rotfl:
I also set off the alarm entering Dorothy Perkins but not leaving. It may have been the library books, but everyone does look!
But then I am always the one who gets asked to step to one side to be checked at Airports as I always set the scanner off. I have no idea why! I think I could walk through starkers and the alarm would still go.0 -
When alarms go off I turn bright red and look guilty even though I am definitely not a shoplifter! There is one particular shop where they regularly forget to remove security tags, and when the alarm goes off staff immediately rush to the door to surround their unfortunate victim who has no choice but to cooperate. They then assume the poor person is guilty and are pretty aggressive. I am not shopping there again - it's too embarrassing......0

whatever happened to innocent until proved guilty?!0 -
Could be a number of things setting it off? Pacemaker, pins in bones, injected birth control etc etc etc.
Also if you walk right in the middle of the sensors there is less chance of the alarm going off due to them been placed too far apart. If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550 -
The alarm system shops use is just an indicator. If it goes off when someone is leaving it gives the staff or security an indication that a theft may have occured.
They can ask you for a search and you are able to decline. This however can give them further grounds to suspect an offence has been commited and can use reasonable force to detain you until a police officer attends.0
