I would never allow store staff or a security guard to search me. I would make them call the Police.0

look at PACE,police and criminal evidence act0

can you refused to be searched? probably, but it doesn't mean they'll wave you on your way. It'll probably mean they detain you while they call the police who can search you; so you have the right to complain about it0

Don't go shopping after you have just picked up library books.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0

Also look at the phrase "any person powers",which explains the difference between the powers that a citizen has,and the Police (and similar )0

You do have the right to refuse a search, however you could also find yourself refused entry in future as well as looking guilty as sin, if you have nothing to hide then it takes less than 10 seconds to prove there's nothing wrong. Besides that if it were me, i'd be trying to find out what product was still tagged & do something about it at the first oppertunity.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

i would tell them they could do it in front of the entire store provided they were going to apologise to me in front of everybody when they found nothing , i would rather they were activly doing their job than added another 5% to everybody's bill to pay for more shoplifters next year, and all they were trying to do was the job they are paid for0

nothing wrong with store staff or security staff searching you, members of staff of the supermarkets get randomly searched albeit the staff areasked to empty they're pockets with management and sometimes security there, the easy option for a customer is to empty your pockets so you can get what you wanted0
