Banks with cashiers, not sales staff

I know bank cashiers are now all sales staff, and exist primarily to sell you stuff at the counter. I also know that many banks will allow you to update your marketing preferences to stop them doing this. There are reasons I know all this, the same reasons I know this doesn't usually work.
To save all the hassle, are there any banks or building societies that actually employ bank cashiers that don't do this? That way, they won't keep 'forgetting' and winding me up by trying to get me for a customer review when I just want to put a cheque in. It'd be interesting to know, and then I could tell everyone else I know so we can all move accounts...!
First post, by the way. Be nice to me!

Used to work for the Halifax; now works for another bank. Any comments are my opinion or suggestion, not a recommendation!

I find using cash machines and deposit machines is the best way to avoid it.0

It is everywhere these days, I think op4u is right. The worst offenders I have come across are the Post Office (but they are fighting for their survival) and Santander. No wonder the queues are so long!0

Or you could just politely decline?Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

it is annoying - and not only for the customer being sold to. Last week I was in my bank (small branch NEVER more than 3 staff on) there was 1 teller/cashier/salesperson serving. She did the selling to the customer she was serving (upgrading from a cashminder account - I heard it ALL - had to book her an appointment, had to be at lunchtime) and THREE people walked out while I waited...
eventually another teller, who had been out back, came through and served me, because, thanks to the walkers, I was by then at the front of the queue.
I was tempted to tell them 3 people had walked out but decided I CBA...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I have not been offered one single thing in the 2 and a half years I have held a LTSB account - probably because of the CPD marker on the account.
Maybe you should ask for a CPD marker? You can have mine if you likeI spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Or you could just learn to say no, ive been asked in the post office would i be interested in a PO credit card i say no thanks, albeit they may only give you the form to fill in.0

This never happens to me, but I look about 12 so I guess they think I'm not worth the effort.0

I hate all the junk mail they send you 'There's a loan sitting here waiting for you'' they even sent my partner a credit card when he didn't ask for one and then rang to find out why he had cut it up and sent it back!!! They used to bug me ALL the time but i will tell you one thing, when my partner got made redundant and that first JSA payment went in to our account it must have set an alarm bell ringing at Lloyds as suddenly our overdraft was taken away and no post was arriving, they didn't even bother to tell us....i hate banks.0

yeah I hate this too! once I went in to put some cash in my ISA, and the assistant said "I see you have a DD to D&G, is that for life insurance?". Without thinking I said "no its an extended warranty", then realised and said "I asked you to pay that into my ISA, the DD is on my current account, the only way you could have seen that is if you deliberately went through my list of DD's instead of accessing my ISA".
He looked a bit shocked, then sheepish, then without saying anything hurriedly paid my money in and gave me my reciept, again without saying anything. I was so annoyed that he did that - I didnt ask or authorise him to and it was clearly just to sell me life insurance. I stick to online banking or the drop in machines now.0 -
If you make an appointment for a review it won't cost you anything and it's a free coffee and sit-down which you would otherwise pay for in a cafe.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
