Also, as a side note, my husband was reading this thread over my shoulder. He is one of my BH references, and apparently, when they called to verify my info, the conversation happened thusly:
BH "Hello there, is that Mr. x"
    OH "Yes"
BH "Oh hi there, Mrs. X has put you as a reference. I believe you should be expecting this call. I was wondering if you could confirm some details for us?"
OH "Oh yes, sure, no probs"
BH "Can you confirm Mrs. X's address?"
    OH "yeah, it's xyz"
BH "wonderful, and can you confirm her contact telephone number"
    OH "yup, it's 0xxxxxx"
BH "great. How do you know Mrs. X?"
OH "I knocked her up & now she's my wife"
BH "OK, how long have you known her for"
    OH "About 5/6 years"
BH "great. And would you say she was a reliable and trustworthy person"
OH "Yeah, she's great. Unless you try and hide chocolate from her. Then she'll kill you"
BH "That's all great, thanks. And finally, if we have trouble contacting Mrs. X in the future, can we contact you in order to get in touch with her"
    OH "Yeah, no trouble"

Apparently, according to OH, this is word for word. If it is, I may have to poke him with a stick for his cheek!

Oh that has given me a good laugh this morning! If your mans anything like man then he would genuinely answer this way, and I bet he's given the BH employee a giggle!!

When I signed up for BH they asked me if I had the permission of the contacts, and I signed a contract giving them permission to contact them for verification/to try and contact me. When they called those contacts they were asked if they gave permission to be on file and be called if ever they cannot contact me!

I would be VERY interested to hear back from OP to see if he ever signed an agreement and was told why they needed 5 contacts, and how they contacted a family member who wasnt one of the 5? Or if, as I suspect, he didnt listen, was desperate to get his hands on that new plasma tv or playstation and signed away without ever reading the t&c's??
Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!

My OH insists that that is how he answered the questions, but apparently, before answering the question properly, he answered the question "How long have you known Mrs. X" as "far too long. Like an eternity... Of fire and brimstone"

You cannot be coerced into relinquishing your rights. Read the Unfair Terms Regulations.
As has been asked too many times before, which section of this law are you referring too? or can you give some case law where the Unfair Contract Terms Act has been used in a similar situation. I think you have an overly optimistic view of this particular law.

I do think its important to look at arguments from both sides so it is good (in a strange way) of Flyboy to look for the positives for all posters, but without backing this up with facts and resources just makes all the posts lack credibility.

Just a little bump for flyboy who has been on today to see if he can show us this law that he keeps saying is out there but has yet to provide us with what he is on about.

Also to ask him, again - if they were doing anything wrong with their credit T&Cs why have the authorities not acted on them.

But posting page after page of unsubstantiated BS isn't? And I didn't post the contents of this PM, just the gist.

Perhaps the moderators could force Flyboy to substantiate his ridiculous claims and point to the legislation/references which he alludes to but never clarifies.

    Why?
It's far easier to simply censor people who want to give the correct advice and ignore people who make claims which the can't or won't substantiate and which could cause monetary loss to people innocent enough or foolish enough to believe them.

Ooooooops! Sorry! You are, of course, right!

Please wait for a Moderator to come and chastise you.

There really needs to be an "über thanks" button on this forum.

    Hi all,

The answer to those questions can be found in the FAQs...

I've seen advice on the forum that's completely wrong, why haven't you removed it?

Although we believe this is an amazing forum with a huge wealth of information of benefit to many people, and most people are keen to help others, sometimes messages are posted that are poorly researched, ill-conceived, downright wrong or sadly even worse, misleading and deceptive.

You should not, therefore, rely on information being accurate or complete. If you do, you do so at your own risk. Therefore please, please take care to check everything out yourself, and be very careful. We would hate to think people were getting money wrong because of this site!

So why is it that every post or thread on the savings forum that was related to people buying silver bullion for investment was deleted by the mods or administrator?
