I wondered who was going to be the first to say it...............
And it got the expected reaction. That's the end of any sensible discussion on this subject. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Highland Council charge £20 for renewing Blue Badges. The Scottish Government left the cost of charging up to each individual council. I agree £20 is a lot of money but I will pay that to have my badge renewed as I do save on parking in some places. Although Highland Council are taking the michael as they changed their council car parks to pay and display but disabled drivers still have to pay AND display!!!
Yes in Scotland we have free prescriptions but that is because the Scottish Government paid for it ... I should know because I work for a member of the scottish parliament. This is completely different from the blue badges as the pricing was left up to the local councils and not dealt with by the government. I would much rather pay £20 every 3 years than £7.50 per item on my prescriptions .
And just to jd87 ... you do not pay your taxes for my badge, i pay my own taxes and think that there are folk out there who can barely afford to heat their homes because they have a disabled child to care for ... they should get their badges for free and I would not object to my taxes being used in that way ... don't want to offend anyone but that is my own opinion and i understand that not everyone will agreeLBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:
Current debt levels: OD £3860, Loan 1 £6091, Loan 2 £5052, Parents £260, Total £16133  As at 01 May 2012 - 51.69% paid off :j

Yes in Scotland now we get free prescription charges - I can now get my Cancer drugs free.
As i worked all my adult life (25yrs) I never qualified for free prescriptions so had to buy an annual ticket.
I also still pay FULL council tax. No discounts apply.
Blue badge is same as last one, my ugly mug photo on the back and a hologram thing on the front with the council stamp on it.
I holiday in Devon every year and find it "disappointing" that BB holders still get charged to park in some places. some offer 1st hour free, others nothing. Free parking in Scotland for BB holders.
Motorway stations are another thing entirely!
And in Paignton we were told we could park on double yellow lines?
I don't know how many BB holders there is in Glasgow but at £20 a time that's a few bob into the Council coffers.
I too hate people who park in disabled bays. I noticed at B&Q today they have painted all their disabled bays blue!:D0 -

Worth it at £50 if the extra money was spent ensuring the spaces were kept free for those that need them.0

Husband pays £2 for his admin charge onlyWhy pay full price when you may get it YS0

- which is the front and which is the back of the badge?
- the online government guide for the blue badge said it must be visible and the information on it must be legible
- WHBC changed free BB to pay BB, the Local Government Ombudsman decided that [ DDA'05 ] disabled take longer so ordered the council to pay compensation to the BB holder
- another was pay unlimited changed to pay limited, a bit pointless as BB can park on the yellow lines and stay for four hours in that borough
- if government want a 20% reduction in the entitlement to the mobility component of disability living allowance in the switch to the PIP, that's 20% less BB's

renewed mine in May, was free no admin charges.
This is Bristol city coucil, absolutely useless and corrupt, so any charges that we perhaps should be paying someone one else is suffering.
Need some advice tho, i have some forgetful moments and forget to put badge in window, any suggestions.. i am one of those that will park in the bay... and accidently show the badgeand i know how some are... i can imagine someone parking behind me to stop me leaving and giving me lectures about parking in BB as i tend to fire back...
I can't help the forgetfulness it's part of my disability.0
