A couple more spends added - a fiver yesterday for a tray of 24 Pepsi Max cans for Him Indoors, and a £10.45 Mr T receipt [a bit of a stock-up shop - incl. a big bag of half-price lentils from the Ramadan shelves, and yet more BOGTF baked beans] that had slipped my mind as it was in the middle of a busy day.
My August GC ends at the end of the calendar month, so I need to behave myself until Wednesday if we're going to make budget. Bread and fresh necessities only, I hope. Time to check the meal plan and the cupboards/freezer again...Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides.0 -
I have a whole 32p left. There was an uproar when I said no bacon this weekend, and I had to buy some key fruit and veg as I cancelled the box.
The value wholemeal was awful even as toast and I just didnt want to eat my lunch sandwiches, so we are back on small warburtons wholemeal, more expensive but at least it is edible. I am making more bread and was pleased to see that Mr S sell fresh yeast at 29p for 50g. They advised me not to freeze it though - perhaps previously frozen?
The basics cooking bacon has been really useful at £1 for a huge bag that so far has gone into brightening up some egg mayo, and to pad out a pasta dish. I could have got away with using it for their breakfasts and saved myself £2 on rashers too. One to remember next time I go into a store.
I need milk, and we are out of cheese so will go over but only by a few pounds. Considering what a huge drop it has been for us I am pleased with that as a result.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Hello, I feel like the new kid in school who's been skirting around the edge of the playground and finally plucked up the courage to join in the "fun"
I've been reading this thread and unofficially taking part for the past 3 weeks, so now have a general idea of my grocery spends (not including Cigs or Wine - thats a separate challenge) I have picked up loads of tips from those taking part in the challenge and totally inspired by the methods used to make savings.
As a singleton I am setting a September target of £50.00.
Off to plan my menus and shopping list.
Good luck to everyone.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
July - Grocery spends = £119.54
Aug - Grocery spends = £20.630 -
Just back from T*scos and managed to spend £15.07 - 7p over the planned spend!:rotfl: I did get some extras chews for the dog and a bag of crisps for me but otherwise stuck to the list - I even carried a basket instead of a trolley to stop me picking up extra stuff - I have arms like a monkey now though!0

Total for August £170/£80. Ok, i totally failed this challenge. I put myself down for £80, which really i should be able to comfortably do, but then i see all these bargains and it all goes out the window. Thing is, I have bulging freezer/cupboards with bargains and i wanted to get creative with using up stores this month. Never mind, on a positive note i have paid off some of my overdraft and will update sig at the end of month after all the bills have come out.
another £80 for September
I am determined to crack this one, and think I will break it down into weeks, that might help. Well done to everyone for even taking part.0 -
Good Morning All!
Would like to set Septembers budget at £225 -thankyou.
Although I think I may be a little optimistic about this, as my School hols have been the reverse of many, as my DD's were not always around(too many friends, too little time ) so once they are back in the school routine I think the fridge raids and cries of "there is never anything to eat" will once appear:o
Hence why my first Sept GC decleration has been higher than normal - have bought extra flour and muffin cases in readiness to getting back to Sunday eve baking sessions for packups for the week ahead.
Plus bought some beef as a treat for DD2 for doing well in exams and more loo rolls & washing powder.
DD2 starts sixth form and I am acutely aware after visiting the place that there is a lot more choice in meals and snacks than her school - she didn't like the choice there so was happy to take packup - I still need her to take packups to keep costs down so am looking to buy her a new funky flask so to widen the choice of food she can take with her and maybe a new lunch bag or something.

I know I went over in August but am back to hopeful for next month. Could I be included for Sept for £140 please? That's for the 2 of us, not incl alcohol or dog food:cool:. Freezer is a bit low but I'm hoping to get back to more veggie meals now we're back from hol. Made a big pot of softstuff's chickpea curry today so that should do me for a few days. Made spicy tomato and veg soup as well so DH will be eating that and some meals from freezer - I know I have quite a bit of fish in there + bits of gammon and also a shepherd's pie. Have loads of pasta in, also various lentils and other bits. I'm also going to try buying more from local shops as and when I need but I'll see how I get on. Got some fab fruit and veg from the local shop today - the carrots looked so great I just bit into one and it had that wonderful old fashioned carrot taste! Also bought some Victoria plums - just enough to really enjoy, and know I can go back to the fruit and veg shop and buy some more.
Good luck for September everyone, and well done for this month - it has seemed so L O N G!
