  • Its odd, when we were in a better financial situation I had the feeling of ennui with my cooking, and had lost my spark. Now I am running to a budget I am finding it all so much more interesting, and am enjoying the challenge of cooking well on less. I hope this feeling lasts! For the month of September, my budget is going to be £260 Good luck everyone for the coming month! I am going to be firing up the slowcooker for the first time since spring!

  • Hi all, well managed to go well over my budget but trying not to get too upset as it was my first try and a guess but i was amazed by how much extra food we needed with school holidays. So i'm picking my enthusiasm up to start again in September. Decided to up the amount slightly but still less than i actually spent this month:eek:. So i would like to try for £350 in September. Thanks to all that contribute and the lovely peeps that keep it all together.

Quick update: the past three days have included a £12.53 spend at Waitrose [had a £3 off £15 spend voucher, and my visit coincided nicely with the mid-afternoon round of reductions ;)]; a £34.08 Mr S delivery [well below my usual spend on those]; and [surprise!] an NSD :T Sig updated accordingly. Can't quite believe I'm still within budget, considering the various unnecessary treats that have snuck into the baskets throughout the month. I really need to rein that in next month; I know I can do better still.

I don't think today's going to be a very MS day, but it'll be the 'pocket money' [and probably my waistline] taking a hit rather than the housekeeping - although I plan to keep it cash-only. Friends are up from the seaside for the day, so we'll be trolling across London in the rain visiting lots of vegan and foodie haunts. If the rain don't get me, the cupcakes will! :rotfl:

    Have a good day, everyone.
Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides. :o

Well I have gone 1p over budget lol! I was walking around Mr A and they have loads on offer at 50p that we use so did buy more than I intended but it was mainly strip cheeses and lots of different yoghurts that I wasn't going to buy and they will last at least the first week of september too. Hoping I can now not spend until september but may have to get extra bread not sure yet. Will be very pleased if I can end the month like this.

"Extra" spend today of £5.80 on nicotine gum, but this will contribute towards another 'challenge' I'm doing;)

Another month gone and declaring at £2266.99/£4300. I've spent 53% of my budget and we're 67% through the year which I'm quite pleased with so far. Stocked up well for September should just need meat which I usually manage to pick up in the reduced section which keeps costs right down but calls for a flexible menu plan. have a happy bank holiday all!
