Hello all. Just popped on to update my spends. Wednesday managed to get to town and did a big shop at just A*di for the first time and on the whole think it worked out cheaper and am hoping except for milk and friut & veg won't need to shop till payday at the end of august. I spent £64.23 which sounds alot but the cupboards and fridge/freezer are stuffed and definitely have enough for the 14 main meals needed plus stocked up my store cupboard a little. I like that the store is small and there isn't a massive array of choice which stops impulse buying. Will be doing it again definitely.
Just eaten a lovely spag bol and fed extra teens too made in slow cooker and was enough left over so I toasted some spices popped in a can of red kidney beans and we have enough for a main meal plus I think some lunch portions of chilli con carne. Not bad with one pack of mince. I'd not bought a*ldi meat before but the lean mince was very lean and hardly any fat came out so I'll be buying again.
Monday,Thursday and friday have been NSD and I plan on the weekend not spending too as we're out walking tomorrow and have the meals planned for the weekend and plenty of milk so alls good.
Small slip up was a shop in sains on tuesday where my planned couple of £ shop turned into 18.23 so all in all am now slightly over my £200 budget but aiming to keep as little over as possible.
Off to update sig nowGrocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

Hello all!
Sent OH to the shop after work to pick up milk & ham from the farm shop and he came back an hour later with £35 of shopping from MrT... the only required things amongst it were the milk and some bacon for carbonara! He bought 'proper' 2L diet coke x2, loads of bread rolls, pack of 4 cream cakes, pack of fifteens, pack of 4 dairy milks with caramel, fancy garlic bread tear and share, bacon lardons AND bacon rashers, carbonara sauce in a jar, fancy ham x2, cheddar slices, 2x multipacks of fancy yoghurts, and fancy icecream (honeycomb mmm). He also bought himself a random DVD. Note no fruit or veg, and nothing whoopsie.
As unhappy as I am about the unscheduled spending (I know its not much but its the value for money that gets me!), I guess its the weekend so nice to be relaxed, we're technically still well under budget, and it's hard to be mad at him whilst stuffing my face with cream cakes... :rotfl: And in his defence, the carbonara with garlic bread was delicious and he did remember to get the clubcard points too lol.
Must try harder to reign him in from now on. I'm thinking sending him with a fiver only would have been cleverer. Or letting him do one or two little budgeted in shops for whatever he likes each month to the value of say £20. Ideas anyone?MFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

I'm here to be sent to the back of the class
I've already overspent by £53.42....

Am determined to do this next month. :A0 -
Hi everyone, it's probably my first post here. Not even sure if I am in the right place. Someone told me today that they spend £100 a month on food. I thought ' how is that possible when about 600g chicken breast cost £3-£4 ' . She said to come and have a look at the forum on this website. I've been on it for the past 5 hours
I am absolutely gob smacked ! I absolutely can not believe how many people are here. Now I wonder why didn't I think of this before. I still don't know how it's done but had a lightbulb moment and am determined
But could you please point me in the right direction ? where do I start ? how ? thank you

Welcome KateC
You'll find some useful information and ideas at the beginning of this thread but to start off its probably most useful to keep a note of what you're currently spending then you can decide on a figure to reduce to for next month - better to reduce in small steps rather than a shocking big leap
once you've decided what your budget is, post it in red and MrsMc will add you to the front page list
You can include whatever you like in your budget, some people include all spends, some have separate budgets for entertaining or pets or alcohol
If you have any questions please ask, everyone is very helpful here... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I have been missing in action all month sorry. other things on my mind.
I managed to have my Meat Parcel £90 worth from beginning of July, still lasting me. I go on HOliday at the end of August, so really needed to save.
I have enough meat to take us to the holiday.
I have not spent on a big shop at all. Still need to do the exact figures. But I think I am getting there. With a little help from my daughter buying the squash the other day, and my best friend donating some tomatoes, and other salad bits.
Bread, Milk have been my main purchases for the start of the month. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
