  • I have a big bag of green lentils in the cupboards. Could anyone kindly give me some ideas what to do with them?!

    Lentil curry? http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/green-lentil-curry

if this is too "meat free" for your family you could add a little bit of meat but pad it out with the lentils, making big batches so you can freeze some.

Afternoon, sorry to say I fell off the wagon with my spends yesterday but all bargains though and DTD refund allbeit small, Boots the chemist I got 3 of each 1/3 off deodorants, 1/3 off showergel or bubble bath, 1/3 off toothpaste from Adv machine managed to spend all of them apart from two toothpaste vouchers as I was holding up the queue, checkout op would only let me use one voucher per transaction so I stood there an put them all through seperately, many sighs all round but I don't care, bargains for me, spent 7.94, TJ Hughes massive sale I was quite restrained only spent 3.39, Tescos 18.91 used lots of MOCs though an got a DTD of £4 and Morrisons 9.28 so total for day = £39.52 but well stocked up. I am adding two NSD for today and Sunday as I am on nights so I aint going anywhere an OH is at sisters birthday, off to bed now Nite nite!!

Well have had my first spends of the month

Mr S delivered £101.43 worth of shopping
Bought some half price chicken thighs (2k) at £2.50 at local Bookers plus some other bulk cupboard bits added upto £10.39
Ordered 4x kenco coffe refills from amazon and a burger press total £15.51
    Total spend £127.33

This should keep us well fed for most of the month when I add it to the freezer and cupboard food I already have in.

The rest of the day will be spent batch baking for the freezer - flapjacks, twinks and 8x cheese and onion pasties in already.

  • This is my first grocery challenge and i must say i have found it really hard. I have set myself a low amount, but thats because we really do not need anything except salad, fruit and veg. £30 went to my daughter for her friends birthday and the rest on salad stuff and stirfry etc. I have now refocused, oh and a little cheat. Found some unused Clubcard vouchers via this site (£23), so to totally balance things out for this month, I have added them into my budget.

[QUOTE=I have a big bag of green lentils in the cupboards. Could anyone kindly give me some ideas what to do with them?![/QUOTEHere is a link for a nice lentil loaf - myvegancookbook dot com/blog (can't post proper link as im new)
I also batch cook and freeze them, then they are ready to bulk out mince.
  • Rising From The Ashes: Thankyou for input and good luck with your operation. I was up visiting your neck of the woods yesterday and had a lovely day. Weather was beautiful and new great neice is just a delight.

Yes, it was a cracking day yesterday:D - sadly not so nice today as tipping down and have a load of towels sitting in the machine with nowhere to go!

Congratulations on the arrival of your new grand niece!:D

Just popped to Mr A for a couple of pieces (namely milk which I can't get anywhere else) and another £21.21 down the drain - that's me up to £57.52 already!

I wish I could do something about my milk costs (I'm lacto intolerant) - it only comes in 1 litre cartons which are £1.28 each. (I also have to limit my wheat intake so have cereal at breakfast which explains why I use a fair bit).

I've just done a quick calculation and I'm spending £600/year on milk! - looks even worse when working out the difference as the same amount of "normal milk" would cost only £195/year.

    HELP! Any suggestions welcome.:)

I didn't set a budget in July but spent over £600.... I did keep track i.e shop, amount, what bought so I can look back and forensically examine my shopping habits for July. We had a couple of barbeques which always seem to cost so much? and I did buy rather a lot of soap (good price).

August has started and not set any budget yet. I spent £169 on a Mr T home delivery shop last Sunday, visited Mr Sainsbugs on Tues eve and a quick visit into m&$ on the way home last night means august spends so far have cost £200 odd.

I placed an order for Mr T again for tomorrow but a few bits turned into £110 worth of shopping so having placed the order, promptly canceled it 5 mins later!

Can't decide on budget for this month but anything less than last month's total will be good. Really going to try to meal plan and use up what I have....
  • I have been doing lots of budgeting and planning in all directions for some time now and this too will be one of my subscribed threads.
Unfortunatley due to loosing the focus and wanting to "live a little" in the last week I too will be relying heavily on MSE:money:to keep on the straight and norrow for remainder of this month. I still need to finalise the numbers but will be on a budget of £60.19 for the rest of the month.

At least the birthday season is now behind me.

We spent £10 yesterday and £2 today. Well, that's if we don't include eating out... do people include this in their grocery budget?
