    I buy Tescos value
    • apple juice,
    • bin bags,
    • washing up gloves/sponges.
    • rice (why don't you jem123 is it an ethical reason?)
    • ready salted crisp packets -
they taste fine and cost about 29p for a whole bag of 10 or something I use them scrunched up to top a meat and bean flan thing. I don't embarrass the kids by putting them in packed lunches but we eat them at home
    • soap when it is available
    • butter for cooking
    • porridge oats
    • baked beans they taste fine but there are less beans per tin
    • fish fingers
    • chocolate mousses
    I do not buy
    • bread - it is foul,
    • fabric conditioner (although I do like daisy fabric conditioner)
    • batteries - false economy
My daughter can not have additives and preservatives and I often find that the value ranges are OK when mid range products are not.

  • Did a MAMMOTH shop yesterday, needed more than I thought, and spent £244.80  so now have just under £20 left for the month!!! Don't think I'll come in under budget but will do my best, I'm quite happy with my shop - the cupboards, fridge and freezer are literally bursting at the seams :D plus I have all the toiletries and cleaning stuff I'll need so really it'll just be milk, bread, salad stuff and fresh fruit in the middle of the month.

    Afternoon all

Just a quick update on the spends, have done my shopping this morning at MrL and MrT (we're lucky that they are opposite each other so no false economy going to both!!) In MrL spent £60.14, and in MrT £5.35 so total £65.49 - have already menu planned and am quite pleased with how much I've spent. Will have to wait and see what I need to purchase mid-week, shouldn't be too much as boys away Mon-Wed next week. Have bought just 1 bottle of wine this week, really need to cut down as weight tends to fluctuate more if I drink too much alcohol. Boys have now tried the lemon drizzle cake I made and have decided they like it - excellent, another cake to add to the list. Would be really good if I could have some budget left after shopping for week 3 - as we go on holiday at the start of week 4, have got money saved but always nice to be able to have a few treats whilst away. Think I may do some baking/cooking this afternoon, if I don't do it today I can do it tomorrow morning.

Now off to update my signature.

Have a great weekend everyone. hugs to those that need/want them xxx

Got the first shop of the month under my belt, not as bad as I thought it would be. I forgot to take my calculator today, so geeky of me I know but it keeps me from overspending.:D

Spent £38.64 in A!di followed by a quick trip to Morrison$, spent £9.13 in there. I've had 4 NSDs as well, so off to a good start. Decided to treat myself to a whole free range chicken this week, hopefully I'll get a couple of meals, maybe 3 out it.

Been to Mr T and ended up buying some chocolate bars I didn't plan on but they were 82p a pack so now going to delete off my shopping delivery where I was going to spend £1 a pack so pleased with that. Spent £9.50 in vouchers and £1.62 cash but now realised i'm going to need bread so need to go back to a shop so have to avoid spending!!

    Hi all

I have been reading this thread all week and thought i,d bite the bullet and join up, if I may.

We are a family of 2 adults and 3 teenagers, one part-time, but eats like a horse, we also have 3 cats and an oap dog.

The main reason for me finding this forum, is at the beggining of this week I was horrified at my overdraft and when looking at my statement realising I had spent over £600 on food last month and that doesn,t include any cash purchases.

I am half-way through 2 weeks off work, so with the help of all you loverlies, I have spent this week listing all the contents of the freezers and cupboards and writing up a 2 week meal plan.

Sorry to waffle on, I am aiming to spend £400this month, as its the school hols.

    Wish me luck.....
