    Ping 8.8.8.8
And if it is successful, manually assign your DNS entries to...
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

    Then check by pinging google.com
If OK, it should then be working.

I had a problem with these large Virgin 50MB modems and the DNS broke on 2 that I tried, but only with both Windows 7, but XP was fine.

are the lights flashing on the network card on the back of the PC to show it's receiving a signal from the router?

also, swap the ethernet cable from one of the other working devices
  • It is a laptop using Windows Vista. But it does work on all the other laptops / PCs.

and what's the 'apple tv' as you said that's got 192.168.0.1 as the IP address and also 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway and DHCP server. 192.168.0.1 should be the router
  • how do I do this?

Sorry perhaps I got it mixed up with the Apple TV just listing the router address. I don't think that the Apple TV upset much as the original computer didn't work from before I turned on the Apple TV.

Ok, so it's definitely not seeing the router at all. Try an:
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

to get a new IP address
