Take your own photo, upload it save it to your PC then take the saved file on a memory card to boots or another shop that prints photos and get them done there. Cost - 38p
Thats fine if its accepted, the criteria is quite tight on the pictures so you may save a bit but its not much of a saving really when you have to keep sending it back and forth. For the £4.50 the PO charges is it really worth the hassle, they take the picture and its APPROVED there and then.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
If you have a passport that has been issued within the past 5 years you can enter you passport number online and they will take the details from it - saves you the cost of photos and you know it will be accepted.

I thought this was a money saving site not a "let someone else do it for you for a fee" site. My mistake !!!!!!0 -

Its not money saving though is it when you have to pay over and over again because its not accepted!!!! It could end up costing you a lot more and take a hell of a lot longer to do because like I said the acceptance is quite strict, even at the post office it took a couple of attempts to get it approved.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Probably best not to try if its too hard.0 -
People need to get things into perspective, £20 to renew a driving licence for 10 years and people moan yet they are prepared to pay Murdoch a fortune every month to watch what is mostly rubbish.
Motorists pay £45BN per year to the Exchequer - why do they have to pay for renewing a licence that the is only being renewed because the authorities have deemed it necessary to do so???"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

I agree that it is annoying- but alas it's tough luck and you have to pay regardless.0 -

Why ask me when you have answered your own question there.
The authorities say we have to keep paying income tax so we do, people complain but still have to pay it.0 -

Theres nothing wrong with trying all i'm saying is for me personally paying £4.50 for the post office to do it worked out cheaper.
If I had used the photobooth it would cost have cost £5 for the picture, the envelope and stamp plus the time and cost of going to the postbox, so say £6 if it was accepted first time. If it was accepted on the 2nd attempt it would have cost £12.
If I had used another service and even used my own photo that edited myself using photoshop or an online service its still going to cost a couple of quid after printing and posting. So you may save £1-£2 if accepted first time. If its accepted 2nd time you might have saved 50p over using the post office service.
So wow you may save a pound or two doing it the cheap way but the person that is that worried about saving a pound or two probably used there car to go and get the stamps and then to post it off to DVLA so any saving made was wasted in fuel anyway.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

LMAO don't drive then. I am sure no one here really likes to pay for petrol, insurance, MOT, servicing, TAX etc yet its part of motoring. If you really want to be a money saver don't drive walk everywhere.
Motorists pay a lot of tax your right there but atleast that money is put into government and used for the benefit of everyone. Insurance companies receive a hell of a lot more than that per year i'm sure but only a little bit of tax from that is put back into the pot the rest is paid out to fat cats!!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
