DVLA Licence renewal fee £20

It's also, AFAIK, £1,000 fine for not notifying the DVLA if you change address.
I also hate them, from the time when I phoned a few times to see if I could just change my South African driving licence for a UK one, and they insisted that I had to be retested. So went through all that (lessons, going to Manchester for the theory test, the test itself) only to find that my other friends with SA licences just changed theirs over.
I also hate them for handing over drivers details to people such as the overweening private parking people - where's data protection when you need it. Disgusting!
As for the £20, yes, we all have to pay it.0 -

As far as I can see you've done the right thing and your friends are talking rubbish. From Driving in GB on a Foreign Licence :
"To ensure continuous driving entitlement a provisional GB licence must have been obtained and a driving test(s) passed before the 12-month period elapses."0 -
During one of the many renewals I have to make, teh DVLA left off my category C1 entitlement. I contacted them to ask why and they told me, to get it re-instated, I would have to get another certificate from my GP to confirm I am medically fit. At the time I didn't really need it, so I asked, "will it affect my renewal?" The reply was an emphatic, "no!" So I let it ride, for the time being (this was before the photo licence became mandatory). Then, about two years later, I needed to hire a car and the hire company ran a DVLA check on me and discovered that my licence had not been renewed, because they still awaiting the return of the form to re-instate my C1 entitlement. I had been driving without a valid licence for two years.
I had to rush around for three days getting forms signed, photos taken and countersigned and getting things delivered by courier. I was advised that it could take up to six weeks to get my licence back. I actually received it back within four days, because the person in the medical department at the DVLA took personal ownership of the case.
So, "big down," for the DVLA for screwing with my licence, but a "big up" to the guy in the medical department. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

I don't think that is right. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I presume by your response, you have worked out that I wasn't.
Why should I do your legwork? The legislation is out there, go find it to back up your claim that an expired photo means "you are no longer licenced to drive".
Considering your wrong that's a pretty irresponsible statement to make.
Go on I'll start you off on your quest....
You must renew the photo on your licence before it runs out because it is only valid forIf you fail to do either of these, you may have to pay a £1000 fine.
10 years. You must also keep your personal details (name and address) up to date.
You'll notice the word PHOTO. No mention of not being licenced to drive!
Let's see if you can put some meat on the bones of your POV instead of your usual 1 line remarks that offer little, if anything.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Whilst looking for passport sized photos I was dismayed at the cost of them, around £5 for a set. Looking around the internet I found https://www.epassportphoto.com
Take your own photo, upload it save it to your PC then take the saved file on a memory card to boots or another shop that prints photos and get them done there. Cost - 38p0 -
I only have a paper license, but it is in about 6 bits.
I have some expired points on it, can I send away to get them removed for free and then get a photo license for free as well
Or can I just get them removed and the paper license renewed on its own (free) becasue as said it is very tatty0 -

We were discussing the semantic differences between revoked and expired. I have no idea what the flip you are on about and I suspect neither do you.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
