    Puzzled by this advice

I don't know of any post office that does photos - other than a few that have the booths you despise

A local photographic shop can be cheaper (and better) than the booths.

Most of the main post offices do it. they have their own photo booth which they control from the counter. They take the picture and it gets uploaded directly to the DVLA from what I can gather. the photo is either approved and you sign the forms, or its not approved and they retake the picture.

Just to add a local photographic shop isn't likely to be cheaper at all, plus the photos they take could still be rejected.

Just been instructed that unless I submit £20 with a new photo to DVLA for my licence I could be liable to a £1000 fine - charming!

Apparently after 10 years this is mandatory, my wife has the same letter so £40 for the pair of us, really reluctant to pay in these difficult financial times.

Can they really prosecute us for not sending our licences back?

Then don't pay an give up driving; saves loads of money.

    no they CAN revoke it.

just get a £20.00 postal order with new photo's put it in the envelope and send recorded delivery. we are all having to do it theres no way out of it unless you have points/endorsments that have expired and wish to have them removed at same price then the photo renewal becomes free.

Points are not recorded on the photocard.

Your license has expired if your photo has expired so unless you update they can revoke it.

No they can't & we've been through this a few weeks ago! Your licence is valid until your 70th birthday... that's law!

It doesn't get revoked, it just expires and you are no longer licensed to drive. ;)

    Pedant hat on.

If your licence expires, it means it has come to the end of its natural life. If it is revoked, it has done so because someone has decided that you should no longer be entitled to have it. ;)
