Frugal Frump to Fab/Winter Solstice

morning all.
Haven't been on for a few days as I didn't think I had much to say! But I have been keeping up, honest!
I've redone my nails from navy to mint green as they were chipping, and taken the polish off my toe nails for a few days so they can relax. I've been keeping up with the makeup every day, perfume and so on. Doing yoga most days (gave yesterday a miss) but I did 5 days last week and will do about the same this week, as well as walking 30mins into work 5 days a week.
For the people who don't like fruit - you're not alone! I much prefer vegetables. There are some fruits I like, apples, grapes and strawberries but that's it. Veg all the way
I need to redo my hair at the weekend, the blue is fading so quickly. Think after I've used up this pot I'm going to strip it out, go brown again and after my hair has had a chance to relax I'm going red again - I suit it so much better than blue.carpe diem

Thanks everyone about the comments for the hair. I will get it done after the holiday now. (when I save up enough money!) Until I splashed out in June to have my hair done, ready for the fab50 birthday, I used to do my own, but I havent a clue what colour I would be doing it, and I just dont have the strength to keep my arm up there long enough anymore.
REading this has just reminded me to go and do the moisurising etc. Catch up later.
p.s. I stayed up very late for me, to watch that programme about the Horder. I felt sorry for her, but also felt frustration and anger along with Jasmine.
It did however remind me that I should be on the declutter thread a bit more, and get my act together and also be decluttering! Since moving into this house I have managed to fill every nook and cranny, and its bursting at the seams, in 10 months!
I even have boxes I never got around to unpack as I have nowhere to put the stuff!!!!. Will that be me in 12 months time? Well maybe not quite that bad, but I am messy at times, especially when I am feeling ill, or if I have been sewing.
Back on track, better get on.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Morning all
Skymist - I'm in Edinburgh as well, which pound shop where they in? Might have to try them - although I don't know if it's the same as something I tried a good few years ago and was a bit like sandpapering your legs. I have quite dark hairs so by the time I had them all my legs were red rawMaybe it's better for people with finer hair?
LL - glad you managed to get some me time and hope the tumeric starts to work soon. I find alternative/traditional remedies really interesting, so much more natural than automatically trying to pump ourselves full of various chemicals.
Mrs W - if you broke the bike is definately high intensity :rotfl:your living room sounds lovely - I so miss Wilko's, they don't seem to have any in Scotland and I used to be in and out of it all the time where I used to live. Well done on resisting the take-away, I totally gave in last night when OH got one
Mooloo - glad you managed to get some of the exercises done. I am so with you on the decluttering - I moved in here 2 years ago and I still have stuff in the spare room that is in boxes because I simply have no where to put it!Must get round to having a clear out!!
Maisie - welcome! Sounds like you have a very busy year so congrats on the wedding and the new baby - no wonder you've not had time to stick a beauty routine! As LL said maybe just concentrate on eating healthily for now - am sure with breastfeeding and 2 LOs to run round after you'll be losing weight anyway.
Maman - your new make-up sounds lovely, I'm tending to use just eyeliner rather then the eyeshadows at the moment - just do a line under the lashes and then smudge a bit over the top. Think it looks a bit softer and more summery and am also being a bit lazy as I don't really have any shadows that match my new liner coloursHope you had a nice lunch - a few treats are good for us I think, makes it easier to stay on track the rest of the time (well that's my argument and I'm sticking to it anyway!)
Carmen - I love pasta but haven't had any for about 2 weeks so think that might be my tea tonight sorted! I actually wish I could draw caricatures - but then a friend of mine who can wishes he drew the way I do so I guess we're never happy
Bratz - sounds like you're doing great :T, I must must must get back into the exercise this week!
Yesterday was quite a good day. The writer's workshop was really interesting, given me a bit of inspiration I thinkNormally I would have choir on Tuesday but not on this week so spent the night with OH, had a few drinks and gave in to a take-away - so not the healthiest night but was fun and nice to spend some time with him after hardly seeing him all last week. Did a sketch of my friend's daughter on Monday and sent her a piccie of it last night, she seemed to like it so that's something. Need to get lots of practice in I think so might just need to ask everyone I know to send me piccies of their kids/pets etc
Seems to be dry today so hopefully will stay like this and will walk home.
Hope everyone has a good day!0 -
Just a quickie because I only came on here to sort out a bill:o
Bratz, that nail block you recommended is great. Mine was £2 from Boots but I have since seen them in £ shop so I'll give them a go next time. Agree red hair would be better, much warmer looking with cooler weather coming.
Mooloo, podperson, having a clear out is so cathartic but amazingly I never seem to end up with loads of space as a result! Today I'm going to try to empty a chest of drawers that we're giving to DD2 for her new house (well the drawers with my stuff in anyhow). It's part of making my spare room look minimalist instead of a tip!
I only ea pasta about once a week but manage lots of other carbs. The great thing about SW is that you can eat loads as long as it's balanced by right amount of fruit and veg. I'm a convert!
Back later.0 -
...I've got my basic, everyday make up sorted. I've got a lovely, soft eye crayon (Superdrug) that I've been using as a liner on my upper and lower eyelids plus mascara plus some highlighter. Pencil my eyebrows and some lipstick. So a sort of subtle, smoky eye look. I'm really pleased. I'll leave the eyeshadow for evenings and blusher/foundation can wait until the summer's really gone forever....
Ooh, that sounds just what I've been looking for - what brand & colour is it?0 -
Hi everybody
I saw this thread was recommended on another one and I have spent my lunch hour reading through the posts...I wish I had found you before. I love all your posts and I will be rereading all of them again tonight for inspiration and motivation.
A little about myself; I am with the CCCS, am probably 5 stone overweight for my height and need to glam up me and my clothes.
I have recently bought a health club card which allows me to do all classes and gym for free, as many times I like in a week and the last two weeks I have been doing classes. I have aquafit tonight and I was "thinking" about going, now I have read this thread I "know" i am going.
JxLBM no. 2 £20k
1st debt to tackle - store card £216.700 -
maman - glad you liked it
I got mine in Boots, with points though, but good to know they're in the £ shop too.
And yup, red is warmer and as I'm deathly pale the blue against my dark hair (although funky) looks too 'cool' and wintry if you get me? Apparently I'm an autumn so shouldn't wearing blue at all, but a lot of colours that apparently shouldn't suit me do so who knows!carpe diem

Well hallo lessonlearned, Carmen, maman, MrsWoolfe, podperson ( my fellow-Edinburgher/Edinburghian,(that's all Google yielded!!) or whatever you want to call us - I'm origionally a Londoner LOL! )and all the rest of you lovely ladies!! Thank you all for your tremendously warm welcome! I feel I know a lot of you already, having read all your posts on this, and the last solstice thread!! You are ALL very inspiring, especially for someone like me.......
I'm 61...62 in December....the mother of a 35 year-old son, who lives in NZ, and divorced . My parents and so many of my friends have left this plain of exsistance, and I thank the Universe daily for the wonderful invention of the WWW, without which I would probably be isolated and in the depth of depression...but because of it I'm NOT!!! yay
I just LOVE all the girlie talk on this thread, and read all your posts avidly, daily!
Food-wise....for years I was a vegetarian, which DIDN'T keep me thin, but did give me a VERY gaunt, unhealthy-looking face, and I was about a stone-and-a-half overweight, and truely uncomfortable in my own skin, and I had tried every diet going!! Two years ago I totally switched and became a carnivore!!! I'm very happy in my skin now, although I've found that for me, I have still have to limit the amount that goes in my gob, 'cos if I don't the pounds just pile on , and that's because, I'm older (post-menopausal) and not as active as I was when I was younger...obviously(duh!)...when I did lots of exercise at the gym and at home!! Now, with this way of eating, my weight's constant, and I'm quite muscular, but slim, and have lost my stomach flab and don't have "bingo wings, and my only exercise is walking...when I'm not being seduced into using my bus pass LOL!!!
I make an effort when I go out, to wear some...but not much..make-up and generally jump around in my skinny jeans and look as smart as I can, even just on shoping trips..a LOT of CS hunting, leading to an overdose of STUFF (LOL), but at home it's trackie bottoms, I'm afraid, 'cos there's just no-one to see me, so comfort rules!!!LOL I just don't see the point in getting all dolled up with no-one seeing me!! And NO girls...I've not got a case of "poor me"!!! I'm at last at peace with my own company, but I do love being able to inter-react with others via the web, and this keeps me sane!!! LOLSkymist - I'm in Edinburgh as well, which pound shop where they in?
The Kirkgate, in Leith.
I watched the Hoarder on BBC last night too...what a desperately sad situation for ALL the family!!! It's just so hard going through life WITHOUT aquiring loads of stuff!! The longer you live..and space permitting...the more you aquire!!! Nesting I suppose, even when the chicks have flown the nest!!! I read somewhere the other day, how when you die, all your treasured possessions will inevitably become someone elses junk, to deal with/get rid of...so sad, but so true!!!
Well, I've rabbited on for far too long...you can see I spend a lot of time on my own!!! LOL

Hi Everyone - Welcome Jubilee - you'll be right at home here.
Skymist I too change into joggies at home, like you say "comfort rules". However, I wouldn't be seen dead in them outside the house though.
I watched the Hoarder too. Now I am not that bad, however, I need to have a major sort out. So......................have just been looking and as soon as I've finished this post I am definitely going to hire a skip for when OH is in respite. No more procrastination.
OH calling - back later......................0 -
Skip booked for next Monday, no turning back now. :rotfl: This time I'm going to be ruthless - after all it's good feng shui;)
The garage is ridiculous, I can hardly set foot in it, finding anything is an absolute nightmare.
Have had a good morning in the garden and am going out to do a bit more. The house is a tip but that can wait until it's raining.
I really must label food for the freezer in future. I thought we were going to have spagbol for dinner, it transpires we will be having a curry.
Todays routine - a deep cleansing face mask and try and rescue my gardener's hands.
Bye for now x0
