Frugal Frump to Fab/Winter Solstice

Hi all,
Had quite a nice weekend enjoying the lovely weather. Have been a bit naughty with the eating and exercise though, missed 2 days of my shred so when I started again today had that lovely 'feel like your dying' feeling againHad a nosey at the Debenhams sale today and got some nice turquoise earrings and a set of bangles with 70% off. Definately need to acessorise more - was looking at scarves but agree that there does seem to be a knack to making them look good.
Would also be interested in a skincare week - have been trying to make a bit effort to at least attempt an actual routine but any tips more then welcome. Also does anyone have a good product or remedy for dark circles - really hate mine and feel they definately age me. Have tried a few products but never seem to make much difference.
Have a good week x0 -
Hello everyone
Please may I join in your frugal frump to fab.....
I have been lurking in the background for quite a while now and have only just plucked up courage to actually join you.
I am a middle fidties frump who wants to be fab but admits to sometimes thinking 'whats the point, nothing works', however after following you all I think with your support I will get there!!!!!
I work full time so don't have much spare time but am willing to have a go.

Good Morning everyone.
LL, I just want to thank you for all the time you spent talking about fashion and style - it was very helpful to me and has really got my brain ticking over with ideas, and questions and answers about my own style, checking stuff in my wardrobe etc.
Jellie - meditation is wonderful, as long as you do it consistently. You sound like me, I start off with a lot of enthusiasm but then find it hard to keep going. The best way is probably to slot it into your day at a regular time. First thing in the morning is great. You can start with just 5 or 10 minutes and build up to 20 minutes or just do a few minutes each day. I'm trying to make it a part of my routine too. When I have done it in the past it's definitely hepled with stress etc.
podperson - I have dark circles too. I haven't found a 'cure' as such. But when I eat healthily, which for me means very minimal wheat and sugar, they definitely improve. I've had four days or so of healthy eating and they are barely noticeable this morning. I use a peach toned concealer - things like Touche Eclat just dont work on mine - it was very £££ but it definitely helps to neutralise the blue colour of the shadows. Are yours blue toned or more brown/olive ?
Generally, I've had a difficult (stressful) weekend and my way of dealing with it is that I want to eat. I've managed to stick to my plan over the weekend but today I feel like a tight spring and can't see that I'll manage to stick to the healthy foods today.
Got an appointment at the health centre later this week to talk about my diet and health issues. So I'm kind of thinking I should just eat what I want today and enjoy it before I start the food plan they give me!
Hope everyone is ok.0 -

Well I've had the contour wrap. It's not exactly a plesent experience, stripping down to undies and then standing there while she measures you! The woman doing it was lovely though so it wasn't too bad! I then got wrapped really tightly with clay-soaked bandages, and had straps attached, I had 2 on my thighs, one on my lower stomach and one just under my boobs. She asked me if i wanted my boobs wrapped so I left those out! Then when wrapped you lie on a treatment bed on a special heated plastic blanket thing and get plugged into the toning machine. It doesn't hurt, it almost feels like a tap at first but you stop noticing very quickly. You're all covered over with the blanket and left to "bake" for about 40 mins.
Unwrapping is much faster than being wrapped and then you're measured again. I can't remember exactly where I lost, I know I lost 1 on each thigh, 1.5 on my stomach, some on my hips. But overall I lost 12 inches in total!!! I can definately notice it on my stomach. You're not supposed to shower for up to 4 days after the treatment, but I'm back at work tomorrow so I'm going to have to go for a quick tepid shower this evening.
2 more to go!
Hi Kerry78.
Well of course the contour wrap isn't exactly MSEbut I've done it twice. Had a course of 3 back in 2003, when I was also dieting and going to the gym regularly, and then again in 2007 just before a weekend away when I needed to look a bit slimmer.
It definitely works - I lost a dress size the first time, a bit less the second. If you keep up the healthy eating and drinking lots of water the results will last for a couple of months. They also make your skin lovely and smooth.
I agree that it's not the most comfortable of treatments though! :rotfl:0 -
morning all
I've been keeping up with the thread but not posting much. Love reading all the styles tips. I actually have an interview today for a job where I might have to dress more professionally (not sure yet) so the work clothes one was good for me. Where I work now it's jeans and t shirts, so dressing more professionally would be a step up. I work in IT and have only worked in one place where it's business dress, most places are laid back unless you're meeting clients which I never do.
I gave myself the briefest of pedicures yesterday, in that I was cutting my toe nails and thought you know I should un-frump a little so filed and smoothed them then painted them tooa light pink just but for me that's an improvement!
I also filed and painted my fingernails, in a go-getter red for this interview so I'm on a roll!carpe diem

Bratz81 - good luck for your interview!
On the subject of pedicures, that's one area where I'm trying to save money by not going to the salon (as often) but because I'm so overweight my tummy gets in the way and I can hardly reach my toes to do the polish neatly!
That should be all the motivation I need to get some weight off...0 -
Hi everyone
It's the start of a new week and I've woken up full of motivation. :TLike a couple of you have mentioned this does not last long usually:D so I thought I might write a 'to do' list for the week. Hopefully it might keep me on track to have a few small goals each week rather than just the big, daunting one that right now seems a long way off. So........
1. Limit treat/cr+p food to a small thing once per day - maximum 200 cals
2. Do some toning exercises for 10 mins per day. Include 'the plank' to tighten stomach:D Its a killer but it is the only thing that works!
3. Get hair cut
4. keep going with perfume, nails and rubber gloves!
5. Try not to die of exhaustion:rotfl:My usual exercise is tennis, which I play locally. I seem to have had a diary malfunction - conservative estimate for this weeks matches - 16 hours. If the matches are long and hard, it could be well over 20 :eek::eek:
That is about all I will have time for I think. Anyone else got some weekly goals?0 -
Hi Everyone
Just a quickie to welcome Jimmy Two Shoes & today wish Bratz well with the interview. Go get 'em tiger.
Cat - sounds like a plan, keep reading and posting - we'll give you a keep up the derriere when you need it.
Jellie I don't know much about meditation - I think I'm too impatient to just sit and meditate (not even sure how you're supposed to it)
However I do believe in "mindfulness" - "being in the moment" I find working with my hands helps this, decorating, making jewellery, renovating furniture, sewing but especially gardening.
I think it's something to do with the rhythm of doing something physical that helps soothe frazzled nerves. Works for me - just sitting and trying to relax would probably work my mind into a frenzy.:o
Actually, just simply doing Frump to Fab also seems to help emotionally too. Weird I know but somehow taking care of the physical you seems to overspill into our emotional and well-being too.
Anyway off to get on with some gardening and get that jam made.
Have cut OH's hair, carer is now with him so I can get cracking. Have done some paperwork - really need to try and slot some housework in too, and some ironing!!!!
No time to sit here chatting .............Laters.................0
