didnt even bother reading your letter...look liked the 4th part of Lord of the Rings!

Just decide what you want and ask for it - the cooker is junk so tell Comet you reject it and in 2 days it will be on the porch waiting for them to collect if its not gone sooner, laws on your side.

Next, get on the net - find a new cooker and buy it. Why would you give Comet your biz after all this?

I dont see the point of your long winded letter....its not a family run business, do you really the think the person that reads it will care beyond not wanting any more hassle of you?

ok - now read it and still dont see the point. Typical English complaint letter.....what are you asking them for??? Be CLEAR with what you want...the idea that a bog store like this will read between the lines and offer you a cooker the week before Xmas + a nice cash payment for fun is optomistic to say the least.

I'm really sorry that you've had such a poor dealing with Comet.

As a delivery driver / installer, I take it personally when something like this happens.

I can't tell you what you should do but all I can say is that lack of time is no excuse for not installing the cooker in the first place. My depot supervisors would tell me to bring the damaged cooker back and we would aim to have a replacement delivered and installed within 2 days.

I would never dream of being awkward, though sometimes I wonder why I'm not:rolleyes:

I hope things get sorted out for your Nan, and I hope Comet can learn from this mistake.

    Sorry:o

You should have asked for a refund told them to collect, and return your old one (if you still wanted it) and you should have got on your bike to another store to arrange delivery ASAP.

Stuff and nonsense about old woman not wanting to make a fuss, tell her the sensible thing to do is to get a refund NOW because if you keep it things will only drag out and get worse and worse and you will regret not acting sensibly on day 2.

If you give these companies an inch they will take a mile and never give it back to you.

Plus to think how it got so damaged, huge dent, door falls off! it was probably dropped, how safe do you think it is? What faults are there which will arise that are not immediately obvious? Is it infact dangerous because there could be a gas fitting inside which has cracked, or if electric, there could be a cracked ceramic or something....the list is endless, certainly not somethiong which you decide to keep and hope for the best!
  • i am having the same fun with comet

in 2008 bought a 32"lcd hd ready tv from them for £1000 and took out an extended 5 year warranty for an extra £250, within the year this tv broke down and after 3 weeks of back and forth was told to go back to the store and pick another tv, found one for the same price but was told i could only spend £800 if i wanted the warranty to be automatically transfered so got a 46" lcd for this price.

low and behold 9 months later the screen went faulty on this one and got it fixed under the manufacturers warranty but found out my extended warranty was null and void,

to cut a long story short just before the world cup started the tv went faulty yet again and after 2 weeks of constant phoning comet accepted they were wrong on the warranty issue and tranfered it to the 46" tv and got an engineer out on the thursday and said the screen was faulty yet again (this would be the 3rd screen in under 2 years)

the following tuesday the service centre said they would be out on the thursday to pick up my tv and deliver it to the service centreand when i asked why they said there was to many tv screens being damaged in transit and now all repairs were done in the service centre(now lest we forget i am in aberdeen and i have found out the service centre is in glasgow) so whats to say the tv does not get damaged in a 3 hour road trip from glasgow.

after numerous phone calls every few days (at my expense) i finally got a phone message from the service centre on the 5th july saying they had to order more new parts for the tv and they should be in on the 6th and the tv would be straight back on the bench and then sent back to me.
low and behold another week passed and nothing so i phone customer care this morning (a full 7 weeks after the first initiall call and a full 3 weeks since my tv dissapearde in the lorry) and the lady on the end of the phone gave me the usual spin of cr*p and i am no further forward.

am i within my rights to go back to the store and demond a new tv for the same price as i have no faith in this tv if it is needing so many new parts??

SICK OF COMET AND WILL BE TAKING MY HARD EARNED CASH TO EITHER CURRY'S OR EVEN TESCO IN FUTURE

In short no, but don't Comet have a 28 day thing where if it is not repaired in this time scale you can get a free one....I may have just made that up but maybe worth a check

Also it maybe worth you reposting this as a new thread to get more responses.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

  • can anybody help me? i brought a tv from comet for 1000 pounds 4 years ago with extened warranty the tv broke down and an engineer came and told me it needed to be sent away for repair the men picked it up on the 27th of july and took it to be fixed it is now the 25th of august i rang again today and was told the warranty company told comet it must be fixed and not replaced as the part was on order and should be delivered to the service center by the 27th of august. i thought that there was a time limet on fixing goods and that if it would cost more than the tv was worth they would replace the item (bearing in mind it had a new bulb fitted two months before this problem) it seems that every time i contact comet i get fobbed of with excuses and noone can answer any of my questions or be any help to me at all!!!!! could anybody advise me to the best course of action? thank you

I bought a TV from Comet for £1000 4 years ago with an extended warranty. The TV broke down and an engineer inspected it and told me it needed to be sent away for repair.

Some men came and picked it up on the 27th of July and took it to be fixed. However, it is now the 25th of August and i have not received my TV back.

I rang Comet again today to request a replacement but was told that it must be fixed and not replaced as the part was on order and should be delivered to the service center by the 27th of August.

I thought that there was a time limit on fixing goods and that if it would cost more than the TV was worth, they would replace the TV? It seems that every time I contact Comet, I get fobbed of with excuses and no-one can answer any of my questions.

Could anybody advise me what the best course of action is?
    Thank you

See now that makes sense, unlike your original post.

I suggest you copy it and begin your own thread.

  • I am following advice from Consumer Direct re Comet after getting nowhere with the company. Dishwasher bought from Comet developed x2 faults within 4 months, nil customer service from Comet only rudeness and inflexible company policies. Will never purchase anything from Comet again. Wish I had searched internet re complaints and Comet before buying and saved myself a lot of upset.

I've also had problems with Comet today, and to top it all, the 'Customer Service' girl actually put the phone down on me when I asked to speak to a manager! I phoned back, and had to ask the next 'Customer Serivce' girl to put me through to a manager eight times, before she eventually said she'd arrange a call-back by a manager within four hours. Needless to say, it didn't happen. Grrr. So I'll be writing as well.
