  • I refuse to buy from this place, the after sales service is terrible, I have had issues with two products bought from them - a digital camera and a vacuum cleaner.

On both occasions, the staff were unhelpful rude and did anything in their power to absolve themselves of any blame.

After the camera incident, in which the camera was clearly faulty (they managed to convince me I wasn't used the correct strength batteries, at which point I bought some higher strenght ones and the same fault of running out of battery really quickly prevailed) I refused to buy from them ever again (the vacuum cleaner was bought before the camera) and yesterday we had issues with the cleaner, I had extended warranty though comet as administered by domestic and general, after calling them about it, I was told to ring comet, comet then told me to ring the manufacturer, the manufacturer told me to call comet, comet then told me to take it in store where it would be sent for repair.

The staff member instore could not have cared less and went out of his way to be unhelpful at which point I refused to engage with him further, other than to point out what an unhelpful person he had been.

What other store asks for your address when you buy something?!

What other store refuses to offer a full refund, unless the item has remained in its full packaging? Even when the product is faulty!

I really cannot stand their post sales service and I will never, ever buy anything from there again, I urge you all to do the same...
  • We purchased a 3D TV 5 months ago but could never see 3D on the 3D dvd that came with the TV and DVD player package. We kept visiting electrical stores and were always asked if we had the settings right. Last week I was in a new Comets that had opened near us.Once again I mentioned that our 3D package was nothing like theirs in the store and once again I was asked if we had it set right. I said that we definatly had and so the nice man looked it up on their system and said that we had been given the wrong package. He said 'you should never have been given that dvd with that package. No wonder you can't see 3D'. I phoned the store that we had bought it from and a lady along with another lady had said that they were scratching their heads as to what had happened.
We arranged that we would change the DVD player the following sunday. I wanted to get to the bottom of how this had happened and so I asked (with my husband standing next to me who heard every word) how did this happen? The lady said that it was the manufacturers package and so I said 'so its the manufactures fault then?'and she said 'yes!'
Today I phoned up the manufacturere and was told that they only manafacture them and Comets put the package together!!!!!!
So then I phoned up Comets and told them that we had been told that it was the manufacturers fault but it was Comets who put the package together. I said that we had the Tv for 5 months and never been able to see 3D on it. (we had even phoned up the manufacturers helpline when we first got the package to ask if we had not got the glasses working properly as we couldn't see 3D but we had as the red light came on).
They said at Comets that the manager was busy and would ring me in ten mintutes. After an hr and a half I rang them back and the lady who we bought it from came on the phone and said that the manager was busy.I reminded her what she had told us on sunday that it was the manufacturers fault and she said 'i didn't say that on the phone did i (asking the lady who was with her).I said 'no not on the phone but when we collected it' but she kept pretending to the other person that I was saying that it was when we were talking on the phone. I said 'no, you just said that you were scratching your head as to what had happened on the phone'. I said that this was on the sunday when we changed it. She said that I was calling her a liar and that she wouldn't have said that and jepodise her job after 20 yrs!I asked my husband this eve if he remembers it being said and he said'yes he does! I now have no faith in Comet at all! (I had started off wanting some sort of compensation for all the time wasted with a new tv that was no better than the one we already had but all I really wanted in the end was the truth and didn't bother in the end with compensation, although I feel that we do deserve it ! Surely if the package was put together wrong there must be others out there that have also got the wrong package!!!!!!
(It is such a shame that this has happened as we had recently bought a pc from Comets and the Comet on line crew are fantastic and I can't praise them up enough!)
  • On top of that I was also told today by the same lady that the 3D dvd player was £75 more. Well if that was the case why then was it a 3D package which was showing a 3D dvd with it in with the price and which also gave 3D glasses and a 3D dvd with the package if it wasn't meant to be a 3D dvd player in the package!!!!!!
  • Good I am glad that you are going to write in. Let us know on here how you get on.
  • Isn't it disgusting how they pass the buck and no one wants to take the blame! Hope you get it sorted!
  • The initial thread is 4 years old... please can't we just start a new one instead?

12 out of 27 posts including yours are recent so just what is your problem ?

Adding to an existing thread can show that problems with a company have a long history .

Are you looking for election to the "Board Police" ?

Oh no need to be snarky.
When I read a thread I like to start at the beginning and when that beginning is 4 years ago I just simply think "what is the point" trading practices/heads of departments/policies/relevant legislation or whatever etc are likely to have possibly changed within that time.

Plus a 4 year old thread with only 30 posts doesnt really show a long history does it? If there was a company needing a long lasting thread it would be worth asking for a sticky to be added to the top of the board wouldnt it?

A new post is more likely to get relevant answers if you start your own thread rather than hijacking an old one.

I was not being "snarky" just stating fact .

Although my post count is not very high for my years of membership I read the boards avidly every day. I do get a bit p****d off by members who have been around for a lot less than me trying to dictate what people should and should not post and their idea of what constitutes forum etiquette . Is your need for recognition and acclaim so great that you have to take issue with a very minor ( in my eyes ) problem ?

This forum is becoming full of useless complaints about posts not being in the right forum, thread, old thread, etc ,etc , etc . They confuse people far more than a newbie who searches for a relevant thread and then adds a post to an old one .

Surely if your have something to impart it is better to say it than not say it at all !

  • So you find the fact that I signed up later than you an important factor in relation to input on these boards? I, like you, have been an avid reader of the board for a long time but personally only felt the need to sign up in 2009. Does this make me a less important member of these boards? the answer is No; some people post more than others, have been here longer than others and so on but what does that really matter?

If old threads keep being dragged out of the backside of beyond then surely that will cause confusion with people looking for information on current problems? also when they ask a question of previous posters on that thread (not realising how out of date the content is) they may be put off due to lack of response, as who -in all honesty- will keep checking old threads to see if anyone has responded.

If you have something to impart then yes say it but why not in an up to date thread?
It may be a minor issue but so is the fact that you are getting so wound up in regards to my suggestion that we start a new thread.
