  • i have also ordered the coat and got the e-mail about getting the top for free. I have a question .... if i take it back to the shop would i be able to exchange it for good to the value of 79 pounds? or would it come up as 15 pounds?? i dont want to be dishonest but i dont even know if i like it. i would not mind only getting 15 pounds back for it as that is what i paid . but i would be scared to take it back and get 79 pounds for it then get a bill from m &s.... any advice would be nice thanks you very much
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

Have you checked your order status and does it still say £15

When I checked mine I found it had been altered to £82.50 to include the £15 butterfly top, the discount was gone and the P&P added.

When I queried who had authorised the changes to the order, the order was cancelled.

Edit: I hadn't checked my mailbox when I wrote the above.

    Dear Mr Hutchinson,

  • Fingers' crossed then - we might be lucky. Glad you pursued it Ted - it does pay off sometimes doesn't it.

Good luck on this one everybody else!
  • I think we are been given the run around here, well i certainly am.
I rang the number given on the email last night to try sort out there incompetence, only to be given another number to ring this morning.
I have rang the second number only to be told i was though to the wrong dept and was transferred back to the dept I had rang last night.
Having had to go through all the explanation once more I was told........... There is no stock of the coat. I will not be receiving the coat, and the cheak of it is they have charged me for the t shirt, and if i dont like it I can take it back for a refund. I asked what happened to the complimentry t shirt and she diddnt have a clue.
Where to next? I am going to ring consumer advice see what advice they can give.
Anyone got any other ideas on this? wondering if we could all come up with the same complaint email let them know we are fighting this as a group rather than individuals They have admitted they made the mistake they have promiced us something they are nolonger standing by, surely something can be done about this?
  • This site is owned and operated by Marks and Spencer plc ("Marks & Spencer", "we" or "us"). Registered office: Registered office:
    Waterside House,
    35 North Wharf Rd,
    London W2 1NW.
Registered number 214436 (England and Wales).

Took this from the marks and spencers site.

So then found the head offices nearest trading standards offices on the trading standards site

    City of Westminster
    Room 66
    Westminster Council House
    Marylebone Road

Now it could be worth emailing them as they're the ones local to the M&S head office, and so you'll have concentrated all your complaints to one office

I've not heard anything further, so I'll wait and see if something arrives and check how much I've been charged for it. Maybe there's more chance of getting the coat and keeping it that way?
  • I have had this responce from Trading standards

Thank you for your e mail

If the t shirt was given to you by Marks and Spencer with their
compliments then I can see no reason how they can charge you for it, as
in essence no contract was entered into in the first place.

In this instance I suggest that you write to Marks and Spencers Head
Office outlining your case and giving them a time limit by which to
return your money. You should keep a copy of the letter and obtain proof
of posting. If after the time nothing is resolved please come back to
    Consumer Direct quoting reference number

    Yours sincerely
    Hope this helps everyone else

    Louise.

Took it back today with delievery note and they put the £15 straight back on my card.

Although I have checked my card and they have taken out £12.75,My understanding is that they only take money out on dispatching an item, so I think there is some sort of mis understanding here.

Going to e-mail tham and see what response I get.

I have posted my letter to head office today I have stated that I would like a reply and a full inquirey into the matter returned to me within the next 14 days.
IF and that is a big IF we get the complementery t.shirts in my case 2 at least if I can take them back be refunded £30 add to that the £24.50 I paid for the 2 coats I may manage to get one sale coat out of them.Although I think I would just take the £30 and go elsewhere and buy a coat.
Will keep you informed as to the reply I receive from them.
