  • Crazy Guy - If it is common knowledge - then why does this entire blog start with wrong information provided by MoneySavingExpert.
It May well be a long and drawn out process but at least you will get to the bottom of who is passing on your details. You can then go to relevant industry bodies and make a complaint. They can only investigate and put sanctions in place if people gather information and make complaints. May i suggest a little more research into your own issues independently. We can only give you advice on forums, not the answers.

I was not looking for an arguement, I was just making a point.

And I have been to the ICO on numerous occasions in the past only to get very little help and or find out anything new.

The problem as I see it within the whole marketing industry is the fact that not one of the actual bodies in place to protect the public is willing to take full control and or implement the full UK laws and regulations these people/Company's fail to adhere to.

There are two schools of thought on this:

First is the networks, who will tell you to reply to the text with 'STOP', often the reply short code is a premium rate text so you are being hit twice. As many targets are youngsters on PAYG, again to reply even to a normal mobile number would cost up to 20p. This is where you get the second view of not replying.

Who is right and who is wrong?

If only the so called Regulators had some 'balls' and stamped down on the 'scammers & spammers' then we would not be having this exchange of views. Until they do the Marketing & Premium Rate industry will continue to tell us to complain to The ICO/PP+/OFCOM/MoJ in the knowledge that nothing will be done and these practices will continue.

Thank you for the advice @Mobile Professional. Like many I have researched this problem taking up the matter with the City of London Police Fraud Section, a meeting with my local MP and letters to the DTI (who had an interest at the time) only to be told it was outside their remit. All gave the same information about this so called 'grey area of the law' which both the Marketing & Premium Rate Industry trade, I think it is time this loophole is closed to protect consumers. It's time OFCOM & The ICO were give some real teeth, sadly PP+ is a self regulatory body financed by the industry it regulates so a complete change is needed there.

1/ The Network Operators are major beneficiaries from mas-marketed spam and premium rate scam.

2/ The grey area that the individuals and companies operate in didn't come about by accident-it came about by design.

3/ The only way to stop spam is for the authorities (Government and Regulators) is to stop it at source and deter future abuse with punitive measures.

4/ The TPS and STOP command are both voluntary measures and no good without enforcement measures

    Intasun32 and Wantmemoney,

I agree with both your posts and it seems absoloute ludicrous that no one will clamp down on these vermin and stop them harassing the public in this way they do not comply with the law and as joe public we are powerless to stop them as are the governing bodies in place.

I will find who is behind the ones on the Accident Compensation Claim, I have a pretty good idea who it is and know the exact area of the source within 50 meteres of the culprit, Beware whoever you are I am on your tail.
  • Crazyguy I refer to your comment about my post being useless and common knowledge

I have read all your posts now and you are completely wrong with some of your comments.

The TPS is not a register to screen against for SMS hence the meaning of TPS , Telephone Preference Service. It is for phonecalls not SMS.

You say you have done research but you are researching the wrong things. Look at tpsonline.org.uk or even call the DMA who run the bloody TPS they will tell you over the phone it is not for SMS.

And please do not mention the MPS that is for Mail, (post) not SMS.

As I have told you previously there is NO current register against SMS.

    Mobile Proffesional,

I didnt mention MMS, well not knowingly anyway.

And the TPS is primarly for phone calls to landlines and mobile phones but also can cover other forms of communication to mobiles namely sms as they are still a form of unsolicited contact and these company's do fail to check the records that people have registered there number on this database as they do not want any form of contact from any Company offering goods or services that they neither want nor require.

If I have mentione the MMS then I hold my hands up and appologise, but I feel strongly about these People/Company's who do this sort of thing and am quite well versed on the rules and regulations in place to protect the public, as I also said it does seem to me that numerous People/Company's are clearly flouting these rules and regulations and the ultimate problem that others and myself have found is the amount of rules being broke, I have counted a total of 7 with regards to the sms messages and as its a relative high number the bodies in place cannot decide who is actual best placed to deal with these.

The best ones to go to would be the ICO, but you need a lot of evidence to raise a complaint with them as they cannot do a lot with just a number.
And the MOJ, again you need a fair amount of evidence in order to raise this with them in the hopes of having a licence revoked.

My point I was trying to make to you and I was not meaning to sound rude was listing details of the TPS and other Governing Bodies is for most people on here anyway common knowledge as the details you did list have been put up quite a few times in the past and like I said the majority of complaints going through to any of these are going by unpunished due to a lack of staff or the individual Bodie being unsure if they can investigate as like I said the amount of Rules and Regulations being ignored.

If my post offended you then I am sorry.

I was just reading the article on spam texts, I thought I would google my mobile number and was horrified at what I saw.

A number of sites have a whole list of numbers stored on them, how can they do that, is it illegal?

    Some of the examples are

    variosnumeros. com
    mynumbersphone .com
    ukmobilenumber .co.uk
    tellows .at
    mobilephones-uk .com
    info-numbers .com

How can I get my mobile number removed from these sites, without letting on that they have a real number in the list. I am getting quite a lot of these SPAM text messages, even though the number is TPS registered, and just want it to stop.

Spammers don't need any lists. They just use a computer to generate numbers and don't care even if 2/3 of the generated numbers are invalid. The only way to stop them is complaining to the network and to watchdogs.
