The cornflour was a nightmare. I added it to the pan, turned the heat on and added a small amount of water. It almost solidified, and was really hard to stir. I added more water, and it came together in a smooth paste.
"Stir constantly, until the mixture boils and forms a thick, gluey paste."
It didn't reach boiling before it had welded itself to a ball around my spoon.
So I started adding the sugar syrup until I got this mess:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Recipe here for those of us that missed it the first time.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Maybe take it off the heat and beat it?0

No amount of stirring would reduce the cornflour lumps, so I tried this:
Which still wasn't enough, so I got my stick blender out! I now have something resembling really thick wallpaper paste. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Don't panic Mr BE, I've never made Turkish delight to be honest but it prolly has to be pretty thick in order to set, as long as there's no lumps in and you keep stiring it I reckon it'll be fine!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0

I would expect it to be like wallpaper paste at this stage - but smooth paste not lumpy. Do you have lumps still? May need more stick blending?

This is supposed to simmer for an hour until it becomes a pale golden colour. Well, it's that colour already. Another hour simmering and there'll be a solid mass left.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
It's too thick to go through the stick blender, so that won't work.
I can honestly say that this is one recipe I will NOT be repeating! If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
