    This sugar syrup's taking ages! It's been simmering away for a good while now, and it's still nowhere near the "soft ball" stage, as far as I can see.

    Re the cornflour etc - put in pan on medium heat, add cream of tartar and "remaining water" straightaway

    Nope, I saved some. :p

    I am following the recipe as closely as possible, although I have halved the quantities. :D
