    Good - so trickle the water slowly into the cornflour etc to make a paste which will become a smooth "sauce" as you add more water

    I wouldn't - you're not trying to get air into it and it doesn't clump like ordinary flour. You might need to beat it quite hard to get the mixture smooth.

    Just crush them with the back of the spoon before adding any liquid.

    Add the liquid slowly. It forms into mecury like balls until it takes more liquid, then to a paste and eventually liquid form.

    We're getting somewhere now - the syrup mixture is a pale golden colour, and approaching the right stage, I think. :D
