Newspapers Report "Disabled Car Plan Racket"

Pretty one-sided reporting, but I guess that's journalism for you!

There is absolutely no doubt that the scheme is abused but this could have significant repercussions for some genuine users if the government use these reports as an excuse to tighten up.

I've just submitted a complaint to the press complaints commission about the blatant intent to miss lead by repeatedly referring to these free luxury cars and even going so far as to give the lease costs for the cars but still leaving out the advanced payments which run well into the thousands for such cars.

More welfare bashing - Ian Duncan Smith runs the office of propaganda, I wonder if he fed them this one.

Its all about creating an aggrevated state of tension which will allow them to destroy the welfare state.

Is it any wonder why there is abuse?

The sooner that they bring back the 'invalid car' the better. Then they have only two choices that one or none at all!!

Always nice to have a new bashed on the board :)

Excellent ignorance there, well done you.

Yes, how dare beller slag off one of the Holy Grails of this site. There should be a sticky listing the subjects that are sacrosanct and must not be questioned.

Lol so you think it's right that disabled people should only be offered a mode of transport that they have to be able to drive themselves, can not fit any shopping in and has no seats for their children? Oh wait no we probably shouldn't even have children yet alone a means of going places with them :)

No but I think it is wrong that there is always an outcry when an attempt is made to clean up benefit systems where there is the possibility of some legitimate claimants being affected.

No system is perfect BUT actions must be taken to reduce the fraud that goes on. Unfortunately, as with all things, there will be collateral damage.

Admittedly extreme examples of vehicles have been used in the articles, and there may well be legitimate reasons for claimants having these vehicles, but the fact of the matter is that it is a system that is being abused and needs to be cleaned up.
Should the rules be tightened - possibly
Should Motability and people such as DVLA sing off the same hymn sheet as to who and what the car can be used for - definitely.

Until this happens then there will always be newspaper articles and threads such as have appeared on this site targetting this benefit and highlighting the abuses

I've no issue with the reforms planned and completely agree there is a lot that needs changing but this article was a joke and comments about invalid carafes are equally as ridiculous.

Its starts again - just what they want.

Lets get back to begging on the streets and the workhouse, what use are the people who can't work or make a meaningful benefit to society.

And on the first day, they all sat down with their laptops and threw some figures about (just like bankers), 20% savings off this, million off that, just gestimates, short term unempathetic thinking.

Fourteen U-turns later they still drip feed the press on errant single fathers and the benefits of inoculating the poor together with this drivel in that divisive comic they call the Daily Mail and some of you have fallen for it (unless you work for Conservative Central Office that is, in which case, well done!).

Could you please explain which part of my post signifies ignorance?
    I researched those details.

Do more research before you post.

Nissan Micra Visia 5 Door £99 down and £221 per month x 36 months - Motability
Nissan Micra Visia 5 Door £511 down and £141 per month x 36 months - Non Motability

    Cost to the individual

    Motability £8055
    Non Motability £5587

    Motability
The government gives £221 per month to the individual and they spend it on the car.

    Non Motability
The company gives £???? per month to the individual and they spend it on the car.

did your research also reveal that at the end of the 3 years, the motability individual has to hand their car back to motability so they have nothing to show for their £5000 deposit whereas your non-motability individual fully owns a 3 year old BMW?
