    Add in this:

A dramatic rise in fraud and forgery offences in Surrey has been fuelled by chip-and-pin crimes at petrol stations, says the county's police force.

And lots of people must have been done.

when igot my first credit card (with 200 quid limit) i only used it twice. once to pay my mobile phone bill(over the phone) and another to pay for a hire vehicle ( a company we have used many times before and only 1 mile away from us). a few weeks later i rang the CC to see my available credit and was transferred. in the end, somebody had tried on 2 occassions to purchase over 2000 quid stereo equipment froma c atalogue. i told them exactly where i'd used my card and approx how much i'd spent. i also told hem i was aware i'd only got a little 200 limit. not sure what the outcome of it all was

  • I recently called Barclaycard to give them my new billing address and was asked if I wanted to purchase their ID fraud protection. When I said that I has thought it was free with my [active] barclaycard, I was told this was not the case and that I would need to pay a fee for this protection.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

You may like to advise Barclaycard that you can get proactive ID protection absolutely FREE. Visit www.freeidprotection.co.uk

As for PIN Liability issues. This is the advice offered to students:

Don’t give your pin or card to anyone! If you are subjected to fraud in the future you will have to declare (and this can be taken to the police), that you are the only person with knowledge of your pin.

Why tempt fate? Don't let them PIN the blame on you. Opt for Chip & Signature and continue to Sign, it could save you a great deal of hassel.

Used your plastic cards at the Shell Garage, Dorchester Road, Weymouth?

    Then check your statements.

"Dozens of drivers using the Shell garage on Dorchester Road at Redlands are thought to have been preyed on by the gang."

    Story click here.

Don't let these crooks get away with this - opt for Chip & Signature.

No PIN = No Cash Withdrawals.

    Ouch,
    Is it your company?
Let us know how you get on - as a victim of CC fraud, I now find that I am allowed to risk my money using my debit card on transactions where the same bank has just bounced their credit card risking their money. Surprise surprise.

    Harry

PS Fancy bed, I am sure I did not spend that much buying mine.
There is an appropriate comment about debit card fraud here:

An MP has revealed how he became one of the latest victims of credit card fraud after thieves withdrew more than £1,000 from his account.

Fraudsters often attach cloning equipment, known as skimming devices, to bank machines to take records of people's bank details, but Mr Blizzard said he could not have been duped this way because he never used his credit card to withdraw cash.

    Story here.

Comment: Used you cards in Lowestoft or Kings Lynn? Keep an eye on your statements.

If anyone lives in the good MPs constituency, maybe you could inform him he could get himself Chip & Signature Credit Cards!

Click "Thursday" for listen again, and the report is in the first 12 minutes of the program, after a week the recording should be replaced by a transcript.

A verfy interesting item. Only 2 groups of people seem to have been left out.

    1. The consumer which is quite astounding after the following quote:

    22 Nov 2006
Customers and banks need to work together to fight financial fraud Angela Knight , chief executive designate of the British Bankers’ Association (BBA), said today.

    2. Victims of fraud who aren't believed.

There has been a jump in complaints to the Financial Ombudsman in the past year as banks claim that customers could have better protected their PINs/

    Here's what consumers can do:

Credit card fraud - How to beat most of it.

Should this be a NEW Thread? Consumer Action?
