The whole point of conservation areas and listed buildings is to preserve some of our heritage.

I find it sad that some members of other cultures and races, who we quite rightly welcome for the contribution they can make, feel that these laws should not apply to them. If they did, they would not have applied for permission for an inappropriate building, in an inappropriate area in the first place.

I should imagine the majority of applications thrown out by the planning authorities aren't for mosques or some other 'foreign' type building. No, they'll be for some eyesore extension on a 1930's semi in Swindon from Mr and Mrs White, British and Middle Class.

You can't turn rejected applications for planning permission into some attack on British 'culture'.

Will everyone please stop attacking people and accusing them of being racist.

This is about an old listed building in a conservation area. We, the locals did not want it being replaced by an out of character building. End of.

In which case why did you make comments about Muslim extremists compromising national security? That in itself is racist. Would you have made a comment 20 years ago about not wanting an Irish centre because you would not want IRA terrorists around? And why did you make a strange comment that it "would have resulted in our town diing [sic] a slow death"? Why did you use the term "paymasters" rather than benefactors as if there is some kind of evil conspiracy at work? Why did you say "I have NEVER seen a recognisably moslem person in the town centre shopping" which is a weird comment. Muslims are not recognisable, unless they wear the extreme form of cover in the case of women. I think what you meant was "brown skinned", in which case they could be Sikh, Hindu, Christian, Jain, etc.

Regarding the building being out of place, from what I have seen of Camberley it is a hole i.e. very very ugly, with ugly buildings, and an unpleasant atmosphere.

I can understand that some people might want to save a Victorian school, and that would not make those people racists even if the replacement was to be a mosque. So why did you not stick to that?

I love the way that when an arguement starts regarding anything Muslim/Islamic there are people who try to win the arguement by pulling the racist card out in the first few posts.

Personally I dont care what they want to build in place of a listed building.

On the subject of places of worship in innapropriate places....What are peoples view of a catholic church being built in a protistant area in Ireland...Would that not have security issues. Like it or not security against terrorism is a major concern in UK and has been for years, whether it's from the IRA, Al Qaeda or the OO AARR AYE.

All of these things should be concidered and as they were in this case rejected if unfounded.

I cannot stand that we now live in a country were people immediately become branded racist (or sexist or whatever) if they have any objection to any minority doing anything, even if they try and concider the situation as fairly as possible. BTW I am by no means saying that there are no racists involved in this or any similar situations.

Yet we see a muslim group burn a poppy wreath and call for the killing of British soldiers whilst on British soil they are not the ones being arrested and charged for inciting racial hatred. But there are a number of cases of people being arrested for protesting peacefully against the building of Mosques for exactly that....the bloke in Reading being a case in point last year.

We should all be treated equally is what I am saying...regardless of race, beleifs, skin colour and so on.....It would appear these days that because we have tried so hard to be as tollarent as possible that a minority are becoming more equal than others.

and god help the racist majority that dont agree!

But they have the right to a place of worship just like everyone else has. The subject at hand as i have already pointed out, is that an old building was wanted to be torn down to be replaced with a newer building. That's all that matters. The rest is just petty veiled nimby racism.

I mean - national security?Come on get real. Neasden Mosque has been built overlooking tube lines and a mainline railway station - do you really think they are in there planning on how to attack it? are the hell.

Of course i wonder if the locals would have objected if it was to be replaced with a stunning cathedral or church done in a proper gothic style?

Why not just do a bit of soul-searching and admit that, whilst you don't in any way support all those nasty racist thugs like the BNP, you'd still be much happier if Johnny Foreigner buggered back to his own country and built his mosques there... :D
