Hi,
Apologies if I wasn't very clear on the previous post - typing on my boyfriend's laptop at the same time as trying to cook his dinner (I hate the late shift nights!) - I was replying to your blanket statement that the idea of staff manipulation to prevent or delay abortions was 'BS', not the specifics of the OP's individual situation.
I couldn't point you to a specific UK case as I understand the issue is only beginning to gather some recognition here but I'm sure plenty of info will come up if you google it. Some of the testimony from the US test cases is heartbreaking, it makes me so angry that people with an alterior motive abuse their position to manipulate these women and ruin their lives.
But sorry - this is derailing the thread which wasn't my intention - OP I hope you are able to see a doctor asap and make the right decision for you and your family my thoughts are with you.0 -
Well excuse me! Pregnancy is NOT an illness - as I explained my mum was actually dangerously ill - if we hadnt had that emergency appointment she could have died. Is an early stage pregnancy really more important? after all - terminations are done well into 20 weeks are they not?
If your mother was dangeriously ill then why on earth did you take her to see a GP ?perhaps calling an ambulance and going to A&E would have been more appropiriate.
BTW Terminations are not routinely carried out at around 20 weeks and in any case it would be virtually impossible to find a doctor willing to carry out the procedure at this late stage for "social reasons."
90 % of terminations in the uk are carried out before 12weeks.This is physically and emotionaly better for the woman, hence the OP's urgencey to get a GP's appointment.0 -
That's BS and you know it. The OP didn't reveal to the receptionist why she needed to be seen.
Apologies - I must hot have read the OP carefully enough and didnt realize that she hadnt told the receptionist what she was coming in for. Honest mistake.
However, when i lived in the UK I worked regularly with women seeking abortions (both in my voluntary work and in my professional capacity) and many reported these sort of tactics, especially if they were near the upper limit to begin with and if they were contacting their GP rather than a clinic directly. As i said in my post, this is something I've heard of anecdotaly, i don't know of anyone bringing it to court. I wanted to put it out there for the OP so she would be wary and not allow herself to be pushed around.Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

Sorry i should have let you all know before what has happened but i'm just getting my head around it.
I phoned the Dr's and just took the appointment with the nurse, who was very understanding and i apoligised for wasting her time. But in fairness she ushered me into the GPs room with no further wait. The GP has given me a form and a phone number for "Gwent Pregnancy people" So i came home and rang them yesterday - There clinic is approx 20 miles away and a 40 minute drive, they have no appointments for 2 weeks!! So that leaves me having a surgical procedure! I have an appointment on the 5th July to see this lady, I will have a scan and bloods taken there and will then be reffered to the Local hospital for the termination! I have phoned BPA and the NHS will not fund as there is "availiblilty" in my area just not what i want.
I can't see me going ahead with the termination now to be honest, I feel like any choice i had in the matter has been taken away0 -

If you don't want to continue with the pregnancy then please don't rule out the surgical procedure. The anaesthetic is only a light one and TBH the tablet induced termination has been known to be more painful than the surgical termination. At least with the surgical procedure it's done and over with, and you are not awake. Please consider your options carefully. I would keep the appointment on the 5th and get the info you need. You CAN still choose whether you want to continue with the pregnancy or terminate. Either way I would suggest you are open and honest with your husband and keep talking to one another. Whatever you decide to do I wish you all the very best xxxxNuts oh Hazelnuts:rotfl:0 -
What Kathy said. Some women who are early enough for a medical (tablet) procedure still pick the surgical option, as its very gentle in early weeks and is less like having a miscarriage. Anyway, the NHS's rather outdated law on where the pills need to be taken mean that you would have had a very uncomfortable journey home if its a long trip.
