scuse me - but someone who is pregnant and wanting a termination is NOT exactly an emergency is it! I would have been furious if I had phoned the GPs for my mum last week and got the last emergency appointment - if that had been taken by someone who just wanted a termination before she started thinking she was having a baby. my mum is nearly 80 and it took us days before we got her to agree to see a doctor - and an emergency appointment was the only way we could get her there - good thing we did - she was dangerously ill!
so dont blame the receptionist too much - she obviously suspected that the appointment wasnt actually an emergency! which it wasnt was it?
I would have thought a Family Planning Clinic more suitable! as they can refer you and the GPs signature is almost automatic!
The OP didnt ask for an "emergency" appointment just one that wasnt 2 weeks away !
Needing an appointment before the need for a more serious intervention is important and not something to be dismissed as something minor like a common cold.Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

why would he feel guilty about not having the snip? just stop having sex, it worked for me, no pregnancies!
Glad to hear you haven't got pregnant Dave :rotfl:OP- our surgery provides a telephone service where a doctor will phone you and then ask you to come in if they feel they need to do an examination. Can you ask for a doctor to ring you?0 -
If you still can't get a doctor's appointment, go to see the nurse, tell her what's wrong and I bet you'll have a doctor in the room within 10 minutes. They usually have a system where there is a doctor who the nurses can call on if necessary. I've used this before (when ill and when needing emergency contraception, nothing this serious) and its at least better than having to talk to the not medically trained receptionist."Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. Contact your local FPC, I saw one the same afternoon and they arranged for scan and appointment for about 5 days time and then to go back about 4 days after that for the actual tablets (I was similar to you in that I wanted a medical termination and knew if I was too far on for that I wouldn't go for surgical management - I have no idea why that was my personal cut off but it was), as it happened I changed my mind on the morning of the second appointment, but they were very supportive and no hastle (I had a phone call after I missed the appointment just checking that I had changed my mind and wanted to continue the pregnancy rather than just got the day wrong)0

Wait two weeks for a consultation, then take another two weeks to think about it, then push back the appointment another two weeks....
Call Marie Stopes or Bpas and they will help you sort out the NHS referral.
For a start, the OP didn't tell the receptionist what she wanted the appointment for, so I doubt there was any bias on that front.
Secondly, if a GP is anti-abortion, I think it is unlikely in the extreme that they would try delaying tactics until a woman passed the upper limit of 24 weeks. For a start, it is unlikely to work because the woman will find another way (unless she is mentally unwell/a teenager) if she is set on termination.
Also, under the law as it stands, a GP can conscientiously object to referring a woman for abortion, but she must be passed to another doctor who will refer her. Trying to delay things deliberately would be ridiculous.
OP, you have been given correct advice above so I won't add to it, but I just wanted to respond to nottoobadyet's post.0 -
Hi StressedMom.
I would call again and just say 'I need to book an appointment to talk to someone about a termination' and *hopefully* that will get you in soonish.
You'll see your GP who will probably refer you to your local clinic where they will talk through your options plus you will be examined and have the big contraception talk. If you chose the tablet option (please be aware this is not an easy option!) they sometimes will give you 1 set of tablets there and then, and then ask you to come back in a few days for the second batch.
If you go surgical you will be booked in within a week or 2 for the surgery which is normally a morning or afternoon thing.
If you need any help feel free to message me

Hi there,
Just to say please don't beat yourself up over this, it sounds very early stages so just a tiny cluster of cells and mucus. You seem pretty certain that your family is complete and that for you this is the best option.
I agree with whoever suggested changing surgeries if your continues to be difficult. I have done so and it was a very quick process.
Also- personal choice I know, but I have had both the tablet procedure and surgery (for a missed miscarriage, but same procedure). If a friend asked me to recommend one over the over, I'd say surgery for sure- the tablet one didn't even work, despite it being more painful , hence why I had to have surgery anyway, which was very quick and painless and I was out after a couple of hours. Feel free to pm me for more details if you like.
I really hope you get this sorted asap for your own peace of mind.
Take care,

contact your local PCT PALS to find out which termination service they contract and ask if you can refer yourself directly (you can in many areas). If not, go to your sexual health clinic.0
