I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Hello all
Not much to report. Made beef and veg stirfry with y/s noodles from freezer yesterday; the veg was reduced to £1.19 in T's when we last went and the meat was on the 3 for £10 (with the 2 x bacon we bought), so very cheap meal. Made four portions which are now in the outdoor freezer.
Pack of beef had three large pieces in it, so 2 pieces went into stirfry and cooked the other piece separate, chopped it to throw in with a pack of beef rice (cooked in microwave). That will make two portions for lunches, smells strange though, hopefully can eat it without gagging lol.
Washed out two of the drawers in the indoor freezer today as they were a bit minging. Replenished them with stocks brought in from outdoor freezer:
2 x portions lasagna
1 portion risotto
1 portion stirfry (old batch)
mini burger
pack frozen sausages
pack mini yorkies
nicely on track to have my section of freezer cleared out by the end of the month, barring any special offers etc I've picked up (that werent on the original mealplan).
Oh and made mini apple turnovers today with the filo pastry that has been in the freezer for almost 9 months! Came out quite well, made six (five now as I ate one) :rotfl:0 -
^ I've had some filo in the fridge only, bb Nov 11  just gets chewy and dry but doesn't seem to go off!
This is fascinating, I much prefer the look of some of the less well off countries, Cairo or Istanbul families.

Well I got my moving date agreed - 17th May! Not long! so on a mission to use up things!
Today breakfast had oat crunch cereal, nearly at end of packet..
Breaktime was a banana and two little little choc cakes
Lunch was a freezer meal, some spiced quorn stew with couscous I made a while back was quite tasty!
Naughty snack of a very small portion of sticky toffee pud @ work and an apple
Dinner was a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich - leftover from work as expired today, and a couple of breadsticks and houmous when felt picky! Been on long day so eaten lots to sustain me!
taken out pork mince from the freezer, think will do meatballs in tomato sauce with tagliatelle tomorrow nightI love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D
Trying to find a work life balance...:rotfl:0 -
Right 7 yo is in bed and I've just taken tomorrow's food out of the freezer, mini bagels for breakfast, I've taken out 6 chipolatas and will have that with 5 beans for lunch, I have also taken out some precooked chicken, think it was off a Waitrose bird a few weeks ago, I will make chicken and mixed veg pasta, mixed with phillie, 7yo wants to go to the park, nice and cheap, she can have an Apple or clem to take with her, so I just need butter, as we won't have time to make Cupcakes as well. But will still make the cookies as I already bought them,
Then off to my Grandmas hopefully for Icecream, there was a disaster and the bowl didnt freeze properly, so had to do it the old fashion way, bougt cones and everything.
Had dinner and mackrel pate on crackers at my Grandmas, just had a smoothie at mine.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

I thought that was fascinating too - thanks for posting the link! I liked Cairo and Istanbul best too!
Didn't mean to spend anything today but had to go out and get some anti-histamines for DD1 who has hay fever and whilst I was in the supermarket I got two packets of half price Oreos, a bag of salad and a bag of crisps.
Made a roast dinner at lunchtime which was really nice - I made sweet potato mash, sprouts, carrots and roast potatoes with chicken and gravy, and for tea I made hm pizza, making the dough in the breadmaker. However the dough was still in the bm and both kids were too hungry to wait so they had chicken and bacon barms with a few crisps and I made the pizzas later and will give them to them tomorrow for lunch with salad.
Have got to take DD2 into Liverpool tomorrow to get stuff for her Art GCSE work - I want to try and get there really early before it gets busy.Jane

No freezer movements.
For dinner we had HM suet sausage pie with roast potatoes and roasted beetroot/red onions/asparagus. The pie was in the freezer - not so hot when Mr F got it out but anyway - we were hungry after sorting the garage.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

WP - I've heard a few people get in bills around that price, it's getting ridiculous how much it costs. I read mine monthly as I like to see what I'm using each month, previous month high but this month really low (maybe helped by the builders taking half my electrics out!).
RS - I think we've almost become institutionalised with our supermarket food, it looks so unappetising in comparison with some of these other countries! I'm trying to get more back to basics of veg, pulses, grains etc but it's a LOT of cooking..
Breakfast - banana and OJ
Lunch - fried egg on portobello mushroom on toast
Dinner - wild garlic and portobello risotto
Then, I noticed the spinach was getting past it's best so I decided to cook the whole lot, boiled up some potatoes, added to frying pan with onion and some spices and an indian paste and just made a batch of saag aloo from a HFW recipe, was very quick to make. Hopefully this should freeze ok? I'm just waiting for it to cool down and portion into boxes. Finally used up the last of the frozen out of date ginger in this. Now I've rediscovered turmeric I'm adding it in lots of things so going through it quick now, had forgotten how much I like cooking with these Indian spices.
That's the 3rd lot of batch cooking this week so I will have to reduce what I buy veg wise to make sure I use them up.0 -
WP - your fuel bill, is that gas or electric? (or both?)
Ours has been over the £200 mark and we get ours quarterly, dont forget tho, that it has been a horrible winter and so the heating etc has been on more than we probably had it on last year...0 -
TG
It is both £385 gas and £165 electric and for a quarter.Yes you are right especially as OH feels the cold badly.Still a shock when it came in but at least i am not putting heating on until later sept/october if cold!!
