I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

That is an absolutely horrendous meal plan on the BBC news site.
No meat, not even chicken! I can see how that might work for a veggie (possibly) but even they might struggle. Also doesnt include treats or anything nice!
The thing that they really havent looked at is that the mealplan on there is just for one week, it doesnt cover the other three weeks a month and I would seriously hope they dont expect anyone to stick to that rigorous a "diet" for months on end, its just not feasible.0 -
Morning all.
Had the nieces around for tea yesterday so used up 3 chicken escalopes from the freezer. The freezer is looking like it's got some space in now, ready for pay day lol. I had a lovely ceasar salad for tea using Mary Berry's ceasar salad dressing.
No real plans for meals today. Ds had boiled egg and soldiers for brekkie, none for me tho as there was only one egg.
Ds is at mam's for tea so it'll just me. Might have a curry as I have a few chicken pieces in the fridge that need using up.
Lynsey - Hope you have a fab holiday, and that you make an appearance here again soon. We need someone to keep us on the straight and narrow.
Flo - need to look at flooring too... and wallpaper, paint, bathroom furniture, living room furniture.... and it goes on.There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
A recipe for Elderflower Champagne
(from an old book of country recipes, many using free or foraged ingredients)
“The elderflowers appear at different times in north, south and midlands. It is all to easy to let their season slip by without making Elderflower Champagne. The flowers are ‘heady’ so you won’t require too many — about 2 or 3 lb and the stemmy parts weighed in. Put them in a bowl with 1 lb of lump sugar, tablespoonful! white vinegar, juice and rind of 4 lemons. Pour 8 pints boiling water over, steep for 2 days and 2 nights. Strain and bottle. Try to keep this for some years if you want a ‘still Bordeaux’.”

Sounds nice jelly, where can you buy elderflower in London though.
I've been to Mr s spent £1 on 3 tins of mandarin and a carton of chopped toms.
Spent £1.66 in Mr w on a 1kg bag of sweetcorn, it is price matched with Mr s, plus a further 10% off, also picked up the free magazine, never read it before.
I have spent £17.60 of my £25 budget so far, not sure how long the remainder will last, but I want it to stretch.
I went to the cafe for brunch, i have Zumba later and will have chicken drumsticks, rice and veg, I need.to boil some of the beets, tomorrow i have decided will be a Veggie day, sweetcorn chowder and a Veggie stir fry, i have taken out the milk from the freezer, I will defrost enough to get a cup of milk, then put back in the freezer, I have also taken out a pint of homemade veg stock for the chowder.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

^ Is that the Waitrose mag in the sealed bag 'Waitrose Kitchen'? The last two times it's had free teabags/coffee sachet in so I always get one in case, nothing this month though
Always good recipes in it.

Kirri yes that one, it had some interesting receipes in, so I will definitely be getting it again, esp as It's free with the My Waitrose card, I'm beginning to love Waitrose, freebies are a plenty and in the magazine they gave a break down of what it does, ie the green tokens, It's share members giving back to the community, the fact that at the end of this year all stores will have a food bank, really good stuff, just hope they keep their reductions up! Lol obviously with the money off.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

^ Yep it's by far my favourite shop, its the only supermarket I don't mind going in these days. They had quite a few reductions yesterday and unlike other supermarkets the reduced veg always looks fresh. I like the look of the pea fritters recipe in the mag.
JB - never tried making it but Luscombe sell a nice sparkling version.

No breakfast today.
Lunch - Toast and cheese followed by an apple.
Dinner - cheese, courgette and red onion omelette and boiled potatoes.
All the veg is being used up fairly quick from the veg box, don't see me having anything left except some cabbage by the end of the week. Need to put this week's order in.0 -
Freezer movements not done yet tonight.
For dinner we had HM wedges with honey roast gammon and roasted veggies - beetroot/red onions + sunburst tomatoes.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I have been AWOL after all good intentions of emptying my freezer I just can't resist a bargain so it is still pretty full! I really need to stop shopping but tesco keep giving me £9 off vouchers so I keep stocking up on meat
Over the past month I have made efforts to use up odds and ends out of freezer so it is pretty well organised now, mainly meat and veg left in it, not so many leftovers and odd pieces of fish etc.
I am going to make an effort to meal plan tonight, will get kids to help suggest meals that they like so we can all eat together.
Tonight I will be using some HM frozen yorkshires and some veg from the freezer too. This morning I nipped to tesco and into the freezer went one pack cornettos (treat for kids and friends tonight) one pack fishfingers, 2 packs smoked haddock and one leg of lamb (currently half price so using my £9 off voucher towards meat it cost me £2well that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :rotfl:
