    Afternoon all.

I had a gorgeous lunch out yesterday. Steak, chips, toms, mushrooms, onion rings and a stilton sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection, in fact everything was. Normally £13 just for that, so not bad that I got two meals and drinks for £10 thru groupon.

For tea I had the rest of my casserole.

Didn't have lunch today, except for a banana and some cinder toffee from fair lol. Tea tonight will be the mushroom and pasta bake which someone suggested. I'm reallyyyy looking forward to tucking into that! Spent about £8 at Asda getting Anchor spreadable (2 for £4.50), milk, phillidelphia and a few other bits and pieces.
Quick question for everyone using up freezers/food.
I have a pack (now opened) of mature cheddar bbe early next week. Tastes fine at the mo but no way Im gonna eat it all before next monday. Is it possible to 1)freeze as its now opened and has been in my fridge for a month? (only opened today) or 2) make macaroni cheese/cheese sauce with and freeze the sauce?
am really getting into this challenge we are down to a fairly random combinations of meals for the next week or 10 days before going shopping as we really will be out of dinners by then! ;)

Hi there. You're fine freezing it as it is, but I've heard it's best to grate it before hand as it can get a bit crumbly after it's been frozen and defrosted. Also you're fine making a cheese sauce and freezing it. I did that when I was weaning my lil one, and he's four now. ;)

I find wrapping cheese in kitchen foil keeps it fairly fresh if the pack isn't resealable. And yep, cutting the hard mouldy bits off is fine too.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

I would agree with a previous post about grating the cheese prior to freezing - Also makes it easier just to take out the amount you need when you come to want it.

I'm trying to use up my my old frozen things up first, purely because I can't resist a bargain and I've absolutely no chance of reducing the things in my freezer!

I have a 6' tall freezer and a fridge freezer at home. I share my place with 2 others, they get one freezer draw each and the rest I've filled with bargain meat. My GF thinks I'm insane and often jokes about my bargain habits, but she's more than happy to eat the £3 joints of pork etc!

Its nice to know others have the same problem, whenever I start to make a dent in my freezer though I find something too cheap to leave behind. Its an addiction!

    haha. You're right there!

All this money I've saved, you'll be tempting me to buy a huge additional freezer! I can't believe you give them one drawer each while having a huge freezer to yourself LOL. The poor souls. :rotfl:

It's also an investment buying all that cheap stuff, especially meat.
I love getting around £15 worth of stuff for £3 max. Keeps the pennies, in fact pounds to spend on something else.

Strange day, went with hubby to use free pint of Hobgoblin voucher and got talking to the manager about using the 50% food voucher next week and he said the offer ended today!!!!
Went and did a bit shopping and used some coupons and went back home to check the food voucher and it confirmed what the manager said. So back to pub for carvery meal and another free pint of Hobgoblin. Sausage casserole for tomorrow.

Did spend £2.78 on bits and bobs, got some yoghurts, bread and some flat mushrooms (fill with pate on Saturday).

  • I'm currently doing this challenge! After spending well over my budget last month (almost in tears when I counted up my receipts), I've taken to using up my store-cupboard items. And the plus side is freezing the extras again! Huzzah!
  • My new fridge freezer is coming next sat! woohoo! i so cant wait to get restocking with whoopsies and bargains, i did buy some of the finest pork mince when it was a quid, i got 4, 3 i have put in my tempremental freezer and am praying it holds out until then, 1 i will cook 2mo, got a whoopsied garlic bread tear and share, so im thinking spag bol and garlic t&s.

Even though i dont really have a freezer, i still find myslef going to the whoopsie section, putting stuff in my basket, then having to take it out when i remember! i cant help myself, roll on next sat, gonna be back on this when i do my shop on sat, after ff has been delivered.

Yesterday i was good again :) we didn't eat dinner but lunches were from the store cupboard :)

Have lifted out a beef joint to have tomorrow, i do need to go and buy dinner today as staying at my dads house, but will get a pizza or something at lidls - he's paying so technically i don't think it counts anyway!

Then next week will be a eat out the freezer week again with any luck :)
