  • Hello everyone

I wonder if you would be kind enough to recommend which special offer meats to stock up on at Lidl this weekend, for general cooking but also for batch cooking. I have a slow cooker but it is very under-used (as are my cooking skills :o, but I know enough to get by and would like to do more).

I will be passing Lidl later so any help would really be appreciated :)

Pork :) pork as usual this weekend, if you scroll back in this thread there will be the weekly lidls links :)

    ;)

Today I made a chicken and leek gratin. I got 2 ramekins and smeared dijon mustard and lf spread on the bottom and sides. I cooked a leek (from the reduced on Thursday) and the last of my frozen spinach. Mixed this with some cooked chicken breast - whoopsie in the freezer - having the other bit in my sandwich tomorrow.

Saved 3 tablespoons of the leek water and mixed this with Philly garlic and herbs. Mixed until a smooth paste. Spooned cheese into ramekins. Stirred around. Finish off with grated cheese. Grated cheese is a mixture of cheeses that I bought in the reduced, grated them into a tuppaware box. Take out of the freezer about 30 mins before hand. Place under grill for 8 mins.

Served with some perpared veg costing me 5p in the reduced today!

£6.86 spent today, but got a fair bit.
Pork chops, leeks and red onions from Lidl.
2 bottles of Bottlegreen elderflower presse from Sainsbury's using 2 50p off coupons.
Loads of pies, some cakes and bread reduced massively in Morries and some double cream (full price) to have with cakes. Also got a packet of chopped red peppers for only 9p and took out some chicken breasts for tommorow and use up some mange tout and make another stir fry.
Was going to use the cream to make a leek and blue cheese pasta meal, but there'll not be much cream left, so may have to go back on Monday for some more cream.
Used the green tops off the leeks and added to pork casserole and it was lovely.

Today I spent a fortune trying to entertain a moody, tired four year old! It was so bad, I didn't even look at the reduced section in Tesco when passing to buy the vino.

I told him it was too early to get up! grrr
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Well done Middy - great savings.
Being an "insider", can you lot put your own low prices on rduced items??
I know the kids in my local "hide" stuff they want (under their trolley etc) probably for themselves or colleagues, but good luck to them - all part of the job and they deserve it due to being poorly paid (perks of the job).

In the one of the chillers in the back, we have a colleagues' shopping area. So you can reserve things during the day and pay after your shift. So colleagues fancy something in the reduced, we save it and if there is a code checker, cheekily ask for it to be reduced again if you picked it up with the initial third off. If a customer asked this - they will be refused.

The reductions at Sainsburys work by reducing them by a third first, then reducing it half, then 30p or under. Plus also depends which manager is on evening duty and how much stuff we have.

The things I bought yesterday were on display in the chiller on the shop floor as I was finishing work.

Also we have things in the back chiller that we can't sell to customers. For example multipacks of yoghurts that come undone for 60p, eggs if the display until date is out but the ub date is ok - 20p for 6.

Best time was a few days before Christmas last year. We had tons of fresh buffet food with ub dates of 22-24 Dec and customers wanted stuff with dates 25 Dec onwards. It was all reduced to 10p each and got stuffed jalapeno peppers, mini toads in the hole, apple and sausage bites etc. I bought about 9 up, divided them into 15 weight watchers points portions and that did me for about 12 teas. So each tea cost me about 6.5p (after staff discount)

    Hi everyone!
Lost this thread for a while thanks to tescos!
I've mainly only been doing whoospie shops so my food bill has been oh so low!!
But I'm back and I intend to only spend £10 a week on food. My freezer is full and my cupboards are nearly bursting!
Today we shall be having cereal. Whoopsie bread for sandwiches with bargain pilgrims choice
And tea is whoopsied ginger and chilli mackerel fillets with crushed potato skins, broccoli, carrots, and peas!

    I'm ready for tea already!!!

Feel bad that it's been so long. I have missed you all! :D
