I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Morning all.
Spent £5.58 yesterday, got a few essentials from ASDA (cheese 400g £2 and large tiger bloomer 58p) - decent prices.
Tesco were selling lasagne sheets at 17p, so bought a couple of packs - big dates.
Only real "whoopsie" was a pack of Wiltshire ham from Sainsbury's for 39p - making Hawaiian open sandwiches (toasted) for lunch and finally using up my 20p pineapple which needs eating.
Just messing today, nothing else planned.

Hi RS,
I make a lot of soup and it is usually the quick & easy "whack in a pot" method I go for....
Parsnip & Apple Soup
2 bags of Aldi 39p Parsnips (top & tailed, washed and cut into chunks)
2 apples cored & cut into chunks
1 Large onion
3 chicken stock cubes
season to taste
boil until soft then blend
this time I added 2 chillis as I had them in.... sometimes a pinch of nutmeg.
There are probably fancier recipes out there (creme fraiche and grated apple etc), however, for me it is about being quick, cheap, healthy.... and generally using Aldi's super 6£3000 Holiday/Car Target.... £1800 -

Thanks for this - just the sort of soup recipe I love - I have all the ingredients and will make some over the weekend - I would make it today but I have loads of egg and bacon pie to use up first!!
Lunch today is l/o bacon and egg pie with salad and dinner is chicken, jacket potatoes and roasted veg.Jane

Spent £1.44 on some onions and a red pepper today and that'll be my lot. Could have done with buying milk though lol, but I should have enough to last.
Cooked a pork chop with pasta, sliced onion and a mushroom sauce for my dinner but only served up half of each so will sort something out for ds' tea with the rest.recovering_spendaholic wrote: »Lunch today was a bacon and egg pie (home made) using some defrosted hm pastry and a couple of leftover sausages and some l/o ham. I have to say that it was absolutely delicious - MUCH nicer than a quiche!! There is alot left though so I will be eating it until after the weekend (kids won't eat it because they don't "do" yolks:mad:
You're being wayyyy too soft. Plonk the pie with whatever you'll serve with it, in front of them and tell them that's all there is. If they don't eat it, they get nothing else. Tell them you don't have the money to waste but if they really want something, they can sell their luxuries to buy it.There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

You're welcome kitty, some great savings to be had from the Lidl "half-price weekend" deals - stock up time for some items. More so if you like pork...............a regular meat offer.
It's eeerie, but also spent £5.58 yesterday on food.
Bought 3 tins of lunch tongue reduced to 25p each, a pack of muffins at 74p and 2 bars of Milka at £1.05 (BOGOF) - all from Sainsburys.
Another pack of cheese at £2 from ASDA, 2 packs of fishfingers at only 25p per pack using coupons and 2 packs of Jordans Porridge at 27p each using 2 x £1 off coupons.
Also got 3 bunches of flowers at only 19p each. lol (not included in grocery budget).
Might try the porridge today, or perhaps jam on toast.
Took a 59p pack of diced leg of pork out to make a casserole and going to sort freezers later as lots of space now. Need to get the stuff I need to use into 2 drawers. Lowest freezers have been in ages now and meat supply is at it's lowest now. Trying just to tick over until end of month, then away on hols and start all over again stocking up on bargains when I get back.
Hoping for a no-spend-day today and will get milk tomorrow and hit Lidl's and get a pack of pork chops and also some leeks (cheap there).

Hi Nancy
Wish I'd put some in my shepherd's pie now! Do you put it in already boiled when you're frying the mince? The chilli I did in my slow cooker but I pre-boiled the lentils for 10 mins before adding. Is that a waste of time?
Hi I just put a handful of red lentils straight in raw and by the time the mince is cooked they've softened and disappeared into the sauce - I do this either on the hob or in the slow cooker - just bung it in and save yourself washing an extra pan!!! :jAnywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!0
