Just had toast for breakfast and hubby hasn't tried the almond milk yet, so no comment.

Lynsey:- how did the almond milk go?

Edwardia:- horse was ok, a bit small so having to say no as I don't think it will be tall enough. just paid for the transport for the one in from France, possibly two may be arriving, not sure, depends on price.

House looks a tip at the mo, been so busy with other things, life gets in the way of housework, must just go and do some of it whilst I make tea.

Like the idea of a £5 per adult week, when are we starting on that challenge?

Freezer, nothing in, meat and veg out for tea, apple pie out as well. Have to say this focus of empting even a small bit of space seems to be working, but very slowly. just going to make a blackcurrant fruit leather, not sure how to stop it dripping on the tray below, probably use muslin or baking parchmant, what do you think. I've got loads of blackcurrents left from last year so have to do something original with them!!

Off to do house work and strart tea - it's cold, very cold

Why bottled water instead of tap water? Just curious:question:

Pets all got poisoned by something the other week, either water or hay but I got ill same week so I've not touched the mains or filter taps since in case.. I will probably go back to it myself in time but will keep pets on bottled probably, London water is very hard and is also causing bladder stones for the pets so essentially bottled water is cheaper than vets bills..

Went to sign on today. There was a job on a particular site that had got posted in the last few days, but I'd looked at the site the day before. So because I'd not applied she said if it happened again she'd be sending it to a decision maker!

What a bloody cow!!!! These places seriously pee me off with their attitude and accusations. Anyone who hasn't been to one in the last 10 years would have a real shock at the way they treat people.
  • I will probably substitute the sweets for yogurts, fruit leathers, nuts etc, so would be doable.
Could be really strict and just allow natural unsweetened yoghurts?:)

Do you know, I'd never heard of 'fruit leathers', just googled all about it - fascinating :T

Jelly I'm going to make some peach leathers, got 2 punnets of peaches yesterday, so will be using them up at weekend, least there is no sugar in them, refined I mean not natural.

If its natural yogurt only, that's fine, I will sweeten with a fruit puree.

Bangers and mash has been eaten and was so tasty, I adore those tomato salsa sausages I had 3 lol, other 3 for dinner tomorrow and enough mash.

Got the leather idea from zafiro, I usually buy the bear ones, never thought of making them before. Or somebody on the last page who mentioned it lol

hi.. only dropping in as had a rough couple of days with a bad migraine.. wonder if there was something in that takeaway that caused it because the same happened last time too. Ms_Night_Ryder since when was a scone not a small cake ;)

Kirri.. the Sainsbury's SO organic express porridge sachets.. OH says you dump in bowl, fill sachet to marked level with milk dump in bowl, stir, in microwave 2 mins add organic marmalade/jam. Says very creamy and he prefers to dump in 2 sachets with 1 quantity organic milk.

Who liked Mornflake oats ? Mornflake organic oats 750g 50% off at Tesco to 03/03/13 was 1.79 now 89p !

wondercollie - I should have made it myself not trusted it to OH. :o I low carb so I don't normally eat mac n cheese but as Ocado sells it I succumbed :D Veg in it is soo wrong noo, especially.. broccoli. Welcome to the thread I used to live in TO.

Lip_Stick - North American boxed macaroni with dayglo cheese (it really is thanks to tartrazine yellow ) is just not like UK version be it ready meal or tinned. OH likes it too, I'd rather buy the organic version but I could only get that in bulk from Amazon and that would mean having all those boxes saying Eat Me in the larder.. bad idea !

NSD for me today and tomorrow.

Hope everyone well, sprogs and pets included xx

edited to add.. had an idea for a challenge.. NO chocolate, sweets, biscuits, crisps. cakes. fizzy drinks, for adults for five days, seven if you're brave. Would be interesting to see how much was saved, whether adults could resist begging kids for treats and whether anyone lost weight. ;)
No way! I have a sweet tooth - and keeping it.

  • Just done a quick food stocktake: in freezer (all HM), veg chilli x2, Tuscan bean stew x2, arrabiata, sweetcorn chowder, celery soup x2, mushroom soup; plus bread, veggie hotdogs and veggie mince; cheese & butter-type spread & yoghurts in fridge; in store cupboard, pasta and dried pulses, tinned toms, herbs and spices etc; a couple of spuds and onions in the veg basket; and in the fruit bowl the last of the fruit (apples and a never-ripening mango ... oh, and some sugared almonds:p - untouched since Xmas, though).
So I should have enough to keep me going for a few more 'no food spend' days:)

Coming out of freezer - gammon, 2 slices of HM cake and 2 HM muffins. Going in - tub of LO stuffing.
We had roast chicken with roast potatoes, cauliflower, garlic, carrot, swede, onion, stuffing and gravy for dinner.

  • Hi all - just had a quick speedread of the thread - Katscorner - hope the migrane eases up - I think I have read somewhere that the MSG in takeaways can cause migrane.

Lip_Stick - I know what you mean about the jobcentre plus (or whatever they call it now). I was made redundant 5 years ago after 15 years in a job I loved and I had to go and sign on. I have to say it wasn't too bad and after I had been on jobseekers for a while I decided to try and work for myself and was lucky to get some freelance work so I could claim tax credits again and it was fine. However just last year my best friend's business went bust and she and her husband both had to sign on and they were treated abominably. When they went to sign on one time the "adviser" told my friends OH -" If I was you mate I'd be thinking of taking a walk off the edge - there's nothing doing once you're over 45" He was soooo upset about it and I wanted him to complain as my friend had witnessed it but he wouldn't do anything. He had been a company director and had paid lots of tax and NI over the years but they treated him like a right scrounger - and all he and his wife got (it was a joint claim) was £105 a week between them! He has now started as a taxi driver because they told him he would lose his benefits if he didn't take it. Anyway enough off topic!!!

I haven't been on here much as I have been MAD busy with work - I only hope that they pay me!!

I just had the nicest tea that i've had for absolutely ages - I came in late (after 7) and so just got two slices of hm bread (stale) and cut off the crusts and cubed it and put it in a shallow pyrex dish, then I beat three eggs with about half a pint of milk and a bit of evap that was left over, some salt and pepper and a pinch of onion powder and poured it over the bread, and added a load of mature cheese that I had in the fridge which I grated. I left it to soak for about an hour and then cooked it in a lowish (160) oven for about 30 minutes until it was just set and crusty and brown on top. It was sooooo delicious and there is over half left for tomorrow - not sure how I will heat it up though?

DD ordered Dominos when I was out but she got the hot dog stuffed crust one and even she (who will eat any pizza) couldn't eat it - it was disgusting - I mean really really rank!! I am in two minds whether or not to ring up and say it was vile, but I expect I won't. The smell was even vile!

I have done a meal plan of sorts until the end of the month - I want to give up sweets for lent but it's not going well.....

Hope you are all okay - Edwardia - I wish you hadn't mentioned the Kraft Mac and Cheese - I LOVE it but haven't had it for years and now I can't stop thinking about it!! My scottish grandmother used to bring it down when she came to stay as apparantly "cheesey macaroni" was very popular up there. We used to be so excited when she came - my Mum's macaroni cheese was not so nice - she used to just put grated cheese through boiled pasta - no sauce and the cheese would go all globby ugh!

Well, off to watch the Great British Menu!!
