Could you put some chilli in and see if it improves it or curry paste?
  • I have a dilemma. I made a Veggie stew with tomato juice and didn't much like it but froze 2 portions. I keep putting off eating it. I did think about blitzing it and doing with pasta but I'm still not keen.
What don't you like about it? Is it the taste, and if so of what? Or consistency/texture?

Sounds like my place, waiting for all 3 as well, have got asbestos in the artex here so they can't do the repairs till it's removed..

Maybe I should try this chowder recipe..

Org stall as well, I do need to go and have a nose then.

Usual food for me at the mo:
Breakfast - more muesli and yoghurt
Lunch - another jacket potato and cheese
Dinner - no idea yet but am starving already! Will have it early.
I have artex in the lounge - how do you know if there is asbestos in it?

Not been in the freezers yet.
I too have been dealing with house renovation people today - electricians and plasters needed here plus lots of other tradesmen.
Dinner was TITH with roast potatoes, savoy cabbage, brocolli, carrot, garlic and gravy.

What veggie recipies did you make?
    im looking for inspiration:D

Sadly, I never made much apart from tagliatelle in blue cheese sauce and an omelette!!
We tried to clear some stuff out of the freezer, Quorn stuff, Linda Mc stuff and bits and I don't really like that stuff.
Spag bol, home made pizzas and even jacket potatoes would have been much better. Even just a veg casserole would suit me.
Got too much junk to get rid of.
Talking of junk, I'm not too sure what to do with the Tesco frozen mini burgers??

Just snacked today and had minestrone, some soup to finish tomorrow also.
But I'll have a "flipping" good day tomorrow with the pancakes. lol

    Only spent £2.62 today.

Tomorrow, I'll either make bread or buy some - probably bake with a Wright's mix.
Still need cheese, but waiting for the right offer. Sainsbury's one I wanted never came back in, so we'll see what their new offers are.

The guy who did the test told me it wasn't banned in artex until 1999 (iirc) though it's very low risk, minimal percentage and ok unless disturbed (apparently). It's on all the ceilings in our flats... from when they were built but I've only just found that out... Mine has only been tested as I got flooded from the flat above and insurance insisted on the test before they will take down and redo all my ceilings... I guess lots of people have artex that pre-dates the ban and have no idea that it is in it.

Are they on the list of definitely affected products? Would they refund? Seems a shame to waste food though.. (though if I was a meat eater I'd be out buying nothing but organic after this!).

Think I heard earlier they were going onto results of tests on the more expensive ranges tomorrow.

The artex in my house is original - house built 1974! I have been given a quote to remove the stone fireplace and surrounding brickwork in the lounge - that will disturb the walls - they didn't mention asbestos.

Going in - 6 slices of HM Coconut Lemon Cake.
Coming out - portion of gammon, cooked chicken and a tub of sage/onion stuffing - left over from last roast dinner.
I used one of my 1980s recipes to make a cake while the oven was on cooking dinner. The recipe is for an Orange Coconut Cake but I didn't have an orange in so I used Lemon instead. I cut this cake into 8 slices. Cost of cake approx - 85p. So much nicer than a cake from 99p/£1 shop plus only 6 ingredients! I used butter and there are no artificial flavourings/preservatives in it. When you read the ingredients of a bought cake - such a long list and chemicals that - who knows what they are. The squeezed lemon went in the fridge - Mr F adds water - puts it in the MW for a hot drink. No waste in this house.

I will give the recipe if anyone wants it.

Probably worth asking them directly if they are aware of the potential problem - mine was built in the 80's - originally I just got a quote from a builder locally and he was just going to scrape my ceilings off and replace... But I got fed up getting quotes off builders with attitudes so I asked the insurance company to provide someone instead and they obviously are more aware of regulations and H&S issues - but if I hadn't of got them in I would be none the wiser...
