Lynsey, you'll have to get your OH onto more vegan food, it's cholesterol free! Though can't be helped as much if genetically high so I was told - we have it in our family but up to last time mine was still low but was recently refused another test!

Lipstick - good luck on the holiday with the ex!

Yes, they think it may be hereditary/genetic. Pretty high though according to them and they wanted to put him on statins immediately. He wants to wait 3 months and will lose weight (not really overweight, maybe 10lbs) and get a little fitter (has lost some fitness). He wants to see if that works without statins as if he went straight on statins, he wouldn't really know if diet and exercise works.
Looking for cheap insurance quotes. :D:
Just kidding and that was nasty. :o He's not bothered at all though!!

Lipstick - yes, interesting holiday. ;)
La Senza have a nice sale on. :D

  • Have just found this thread and only had time to read a few pages back. I've been trying to use store cupboard and freezer foods since the start of Dec (apart from over Christmas) and we're starting to make progress. I'd used up all my frozen veg so just bought a couple more bags. On the meat front, it's going well but seem to be left with roasting joints. Meat and veg it is then lol!

Yesterday's tea was chicken stew (chicked had a little freezer burn) and using up fresh veg from the market with big fat dumplings. It was gorgeous and there's enought to feed hubby and I for lunch today.

Tonight is 20meats balls (for 2 adults, 2kids) with a homemade tom sauce for a pasta bake, 1 little frozen garlic bread and a pack of random garlic mushrooms...don't ever remember buying them.

I've only been buying bread, market fruit & veg, and fresh milk. Have been baking to use up my baking cupboard conents too and my kicthen really does look emptier! Things are starting to get a bit tough with freezer surprise and think I'll have to do some more meal planning and try and find some new ideas!
Starting again and working towards our new df life!

^ welcome to the thread! It's great when the kitchen starts getting emptier - my baking cupboard has been the hardest as so much in it and things I don't fancy using in the freezer but have to!

Lynsey - yes drs seem so quick to put people on statins, plus they have only recently decided to halve the amount people have been on all these years due to them finding out the statins have been potentially causing other problems.. they do work well but at what price.. so well worth trying the natural way first in case it helps.

Rofl @ the La Senza comment :D

Teacake dough is in the breadmaker, have had banana for breakfast but still hungry and teacake dough takes ages to rise...

Edwardia I feel for you. My boy is desperate for a dog but with no one in all day it's just not possible.

Well with TEN boxes of cereal to use up, guess what we had for breakfast haha. Brought ham salad roll and yoghurt to work and plan on having gammon steaks for dinner. Blood pressure check later this afternoon and dreading it a bit which I know is catch 22 because it'll just raise it more. Arghh it will be fine.

Loving scoring items off the freezer and cupboard lists. I've also started envelopes for each month to keep my receipts until I work out how to do a spreadsheet and the info I want on it!

herewegoagain2010 - welcome to the thread and good luck. I like the food you have in mind, my type of food. I'll have to start baking again also to get rid of stuff and still a few Wright's bread mixes to use up.

Kirri - yes, statins do seem to work, but loads of issues reading about them. I think they may be unavoidable though and they are long-term and not a temporary fix!!

Off to make lunch, I've decided on a bacon butty.

If it's anything like my last holiday in a caravan, I'll be needing thermals and winter woolies, not skimpy underwear! We're only going together for ds, thought it'd be nice for him, and so each other can have a break whilst there. So there won't be anything like 'that' going on. :p

Lynsey - you're insurance comment made me lol. :rotfl: My dad has high cholesterol. Doesn't stop him having huge helpings of mayo with everything tho. Mam has low cholesterol and high blood pressure, and don't we know it!

herewegoagain2010 - welcome to the thread. Have you made an inventory of your cupboards and freezer? Will help with the meal planning. Will need to do one myself actually, and do a bit of planning too.

Kirri - have you been on the new universal job match site? The reason's they allow you to pick from, for not applying for a job seemed designed to catch you out! There's no mention of the jobs hours, which are essential for me picking a job. I told the woman that yesterday when she asked why I hadn't given them access to my account.

just trying - really need to tackle my son's room! Have fun doing your girls lol.

I'll certainly need the thermals ms_night_ryder, because it'd have to be a cold day in hell for me to cuddle up to.... him. *shivers*

Jellybaby - ds would love a dog too, but sadly it's not practical for me either. Might get another cat once the rats have gone to rainbow bridge. (I nearly called you jellybelly! Oooops!)

Should really be having a think about tomorrow's tea. Might have pasta bake with philly mushrooms and chicken. hmmmm.

Thank you for all the kind thoughts about my Labrador. He's such a big part of my life that having spent twelve years with him I can interpret his every look and he looks sad and anxious and every time I look at him I feel awful.

I took the mattress part out of his bed last night and filled the bed shell with all the copies of the Evening Standard I could find and when I went down for breakfast this morning he'd made himself a nest. :D

Husband is back today and we will have to sit down and discuss dawg.I just don't want to see him in pain and I think some days he is - I'd guess arthritis. He also seems to have a growth on his neck and though he is insured, who knows if he'd survive surgery if it could be done. And on top of that he just dumps/pees whenever he wants which is difficult to cope with - is there such a thing as canine Alzheimer's ???

I feel really down - he's a member of my family - husband and I plus my mother and the neighbour's kids will all be terribly upset when he goes.

Thanks again for all the kind words xxx

NSD for me today and the organic cleaning stuff I got 33% off first order from www.yourhealthfoodstore.co.uk owned by nutritionist Jan de Vries was dispatched yesterday.

Yes, it's awful! I did a search and all the jobs were 2 months out of date, told the JC and she then checked (not sure she believed me) and said oh yeah they are all out of date! It's awful they are trying to catch people out, there needs to be some sort of basic choice over location, hours etc as otherwise people won't be able to commit to the job, esp those with kids.

Still waiting for my dough to rise, starving here, can't concentrate on anything till I've eaten. I have a huge jar of bran that's well out of date, used a couple of tbsp in the teacakes today but at that rate of useage it's going to take me years to use it all up, not sure why I even bought it as I rarely use all white flour anyway.
