I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

  • financial situation is pretty dire this month so last night I did a meal plan and managed to get up to Saturday 16th Octiber with stuff from freezer and cupboards - that is making "meat and veg" type meals but I have got loads of stuff for making soups, pasta dishes and a whole load of tins of beans so we won't starve, however convincing kids of that is difficult. If we don't have tins full of rubbish and lots of pizza and stuff in the freezer (which we don't) then they complain very loudly!!

I have got a dreadful cold/flu type virus and have younger daughter off today with it also. Breakfast was a bacon sandwich, which may have been a mistake as I feel very "iffy" now; lunch is hm lentil soup out of the freezer and dinner tonight is pork chops (bought on the £5 deal from Tesco this weekend), with stuffing, carrots, cabbage and potatoes. We don't have anything in for afters other than Tesco healthy living ice cream, which I like but kids hate - so I am preparing for a mega moan. I might give in and make some millie's style cookies this afternoon if I feel a bit better.

NSD for me today - I have planned for 6 NSD's until 17th and should only need to spend about £30 on milk, bread, fruit etc before then. I MUST resist the 40% off O2 discount code for Dominos:cool:

I've been listing the freezer items we have and am gonig to try and budget myself £30 for the rest of october for food. (minus maybeee a £10 dine in waitrose offer - instead of a night out, so still being good!)

I reckon i could do it. Going to run down the freezer before going shopping though!

I'm trying to do the same. Think I could manage on £10 a week for the essentials this month. Fingers crossed we both do it without any lapses! :D
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Lifted chicken out the freezer for some chow mein tonight, found 2 packs of sarnie meat in the fridge i forgot about! So that's OH's lunch for the rest of the week sorted!

Only got one bagel left in the freezer, will move onto the whoopised bread for toast in the mornings after that. then this weekend i plan to bake a few loaves!

Not sure what I want for my lunch today. I've a quiche in the freezer that i could defrost. I don't know what i fancy!

    Morning.
Took some sausagemeat out for today (instead of mince) and pork joint out for tomorrow and Thursday (dinner plus sandwiches).
Got loads of tomatoes to get rid of (home grown and ripened on windowsill), so brunch today and may make some tomato soup if I can find a nice easy recipe.

Spent 59p on some half-price pasta yesterday (Morries) and trying to be frugal until the weekend (Lidl have mussels on and they are lovely). Still need olive oil and sea salt. Got enough bread to last the week and may also bake this weekend and milk for another day or two.

Edit: Found nice easy tomato soup recipe - CLICK HERE got all ingredients, so off to cook. lol

Not sure what I'm going to make for tea, maybe risotto, or pasta (have a 3kg bag from Tesco that was £2, no idea why I bought that when there's only me and ds), or burgers and chips. Depends what I fancy later lol.

Plan to make a shepherd's pie too this week, it'll be the first one I've made since I can remember. In other words, not sure if I've made one before! Think I'll do that for Thursday.

Had the last bagel for lunch with some peanut butter. Went to waitrose afterwork to see if the new good food magazine was out, and decided to have a wander round , they had some good reduced fruit and veg, but decided to eat what i've got so far before i buy anymore. Go me!
